High Society / Clarinet Marmalade

The 6 & 7/8 Band

Amoeba Review

12/30/2013

In the early days of New Orleans jazz, string bands were popular purveyors of the form, but were rarely recorded at the time. This swinging example was recorded in 1949, by which time The 6 & 7/8 Band had been operating in one form or another for over 30 years. Mandolin, upright bass, guitar, & Hawaiian-style steel guitar take on the roles usually played by clarinet, trombone, cornet and the like.
