As the years have passed since the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, Amoeba has reflected on the tremendous success that we had in aiding this cause and we want to thank all of our customers, friends and families for their incredible support! The people in the Gulf are still rebuilding and will continue to need assistance for years to come. With this said, Amoeba has made a long term commitment to providing the musicians of the Gulf region with a percentage of our overall sales raised during our Saturday Amoeba Auctions.

Continuing our support on the local level is extremely important to us, but with the current state of our environment, we felt it necessary to take on a larger, more global focus as well.

In September 2006, Amoeba began our THINK GREEN campaign working in alliance with following organizations: Rainforest Action Network (who we've supported since Amoeba opened our doors in 1990), Sierra Club Angeles Chapter and Conservation International.

 

We continue to work closely with these non-profits by creating awareness for their issues and by raising funds through in-store donations, outside events and our Saturday afternoon Amoeba Auctions:

 

Sierra Club's Angeles Chapter

The Sierra Club’s Angeles Chapter is now in its 93rd year of involvement in the enjoyment and protection of our planet's environment. The local chapter has 58,000 of the Sierra Club's 750,000 members. The Rainforest Action Network

Rainforest Action Network (RAN) works to protect the Earth's rainforests and support the rights of their inhabitants through education, grassroots organizing, and non-violent direct action. RAN works in alliance with environmental and human rights groups around the world, including indigenous forest communities and non-governmental organizations in rainforest countries. Amoeba Auctions

We are working closely to support and create awareness for the organizations mentioned above by raising funds through in-store donations, outside events and Saturday auctions. Amoeba Auctions happen at our Sunset store the first Saturday afternoon of the month at 4pm. Our host, Brently Heilbron, auctions everything from the wacky promotional item to rare collectables and autographed pieces. Over the last year, Amoeba Auctions raised $150,000 that went directly to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina. In our quest to help preserve the environment, we  offer a special place for you to bring your used batteries and small electronic devices no longer needed. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency computers and electronic goods are the fastest growing waste stream in the U.S. accounting for approximately 220 million pounds of waste per year.
