Iron & Wine's Light Verse is an album infused with joy, with the everyday beauty that surrounds us. Written as warmth and light returned in the wake of the anxiety and fear of the pandemic, these songs are transcendent and life-affirming. Sometimes the lyrical observations are dagger-sharp, sometimes they're soft and humorous. In an album full of highlights, Fiona Apple's guest appearance on "All in Good Time" is one of the best: Apple and Sam Beam call to mind the classic "he said/she said" duets of mid-century country. Light Verse is a pleasure.
