With their self-titled first LP a couple of years back, Fleet Foxes’ panoramic comparisons to white-glove psych-folk delicacies like Fairport Convention (and, yes, Bon Iver) were nice—but perhaps the sextet is nearer in spirit to Mr. Selfless, August Comte. Striving for better ideals and smaller bearings in the ebb of youth, Robin Pecknold seems to be whispering the sweet ego away in songs like “Montezuma” and the album’s shining moment, “The Shrine/An Argument.”
Such a beautiful and ethereal second album from Seattle-based Fleet Foxes. Robin Pecknold's signature voice leads the pack through a mystical presentation of acoustic guitar strums, piano chords, cymbal crashes, and vocal harmonies all giving a 3-dimensional experience to their music. Much like their self-titled debut, the album sounds like you're listening to them in a cathedral, but replacing the typical prayer calls for a modern-day Simon & Garfunkel. – Gabi, San Francisco
This is a powerhouse pop band to reckon with: fully-realized songwriting, musicianship, singing and production. Might be a little too slick for some, but when I want that sound, the Foxes deliver. You probably already have someone in your circle who's gushed the praises of Fleet Foxes. They're right. – J. Mark Beaver, Hollywood
Also available on LP.
