Groove Armada is British electronic duo Andy Cato and Tom Findlay. The pair met in the early '90s in London and in 1995 began a club night together called "Captain Sensual at the Helm of Groove Armada." Their club nights led to more parties, the formation of a band, and, in 2000, the creation of a music and arts festival called Lovebox.
Groove Armada began releasing singles in 1997, including "At the River" which has become one of their most well-known songs. They released their debut album, Northern Star (Tummy Touch Records), in 1998. Their follow-up, Vertigo (Jive, 1999), which contained "I See You Baby" and was remixed by Fatboy Slim, broke them into the British mainstream, placing them in the Top 20 charts and eventually becoming certified silver. They continued moving away from house music and toward more up-tempo tracks with their third studio album, Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub) (Jive, 2001), which garnered them a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording for "Superstylin'." They released three more studio albums: Lovebox (Jive, 2003); Soundboy Rock (Strictly Rhythm Records, 2007); and their latest effort, Black Light (Om, 2010).
Over the years, Groove Armada has featured various vocalists, including Bryan Ferry, Neneh Cherry, Nappy Roots, Sunshine Anderson, Jeru the Damaja, Nile Rodgers, and Richie Havens, among others. In addition to their studio albums, Groove Armada has released several mixes including contributions to the Back to Mine and Another Late Night series'.
