The Hives is a Swedish garage rock quintet featuring Chris Dangerous (drums), Nicholaus Arson (guitar), Dr. Matt Destruction (bass), Vigilante Carlstroem (guitar), and Howlin' Pelle Almqvist (vocals). The band began in the early '90s when they were teenagers, inspired by punk and garage rock. They also adopted a strict dress code policy, wearing only black and white uniforms.
The Hives released their debut full-length album, Barely Legal, in 1997. Their second album, Veni Vidi Vicious (2000), contained the hit songs "I Hate to Say I Told You So" and "Main Offender." With the success of Veni Vidi Vicious, Poptones records released a compilation from their two previous albums and EPs, Your New Favourite Band. Their third full-length, Tyrannosauraus Hives, was released in 2004, followed by The Black and White Album in 2007. On June 5, 2012, The Hives released their fifth studio album, Lex Hives, on their own Disques Hives label.
During their 20+ years as a band, they have toured all over the world and played festivals like Coachella, Reading, and Leeds. They have also won numerous awards from "Best Dressed" at the 2003 NME Awards to "Best Live Act" at the 2008 Swedish Grammis.
