The Fiery Furnaces is a brother-sister power pop band consisting of Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger. Formed in 2000 in New York, they released Gallowsbird's Bark, their debut album, on Rough Trade in 2003. During their 2004 tour supporting their second album, Blueberry Boat (Rough Trade), the band performed their songs as one long continuous set, a live tradition they repeated on their 2006 tour with Deerhoof. They moved to Thrill Jockey Records in 2007 and have released all of their records on Thrill Jockey since then, including their ninth and most recent album, Take Me Round Again (2009), a collection of cover songs from their previous album, I'm Going Away.
Matthew and Eleanor have also recorded solo albums, including Eleanor's Last Summer (Merge, 2011) and Matthew's Solos (Thrill Jockey, 2011), a series of eight vinyl-only releases.
