UK minimalist indie electro pop band The xx consists of vocalist/guitarist Romy Madley Croft, vocalist/bassist Oliver Sim, producer Jamie Smith, aka Jamie xx. Influenced equally by post-punk and R&B, the band formed in 2005, when Croft and Sim attended school together. They posted their early work on their MySpace account, which attracted attention from the Young Turks label and led to the release of their critically-acclaimed debut LP xx in 2009. Seemingly overnight, The xx seemed to be taking over the world, with career-defining appearances at All Tomorrow's Parties, Coachella, Sasquatch, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits on the books. In 2010, they took home the prestigious Mercury Prize.
Their sophomore LP, Coexist, landed in 2012. That same year, The xx headed out on their first headlining North American tour, landed on the front cover of The Fader, and attracted the biggest crowd at the UK's annual Bestival festival. In the five years between Coexist and their next release, The xx contributed the song "Together" to Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby and held a festival-like series of concert events called Night + Day in London, Berlin, and Lisbon. They released their third album, I See You, in fall of 2017, which led to an appearance on Saturday Night Live. In summer 2018, The xx are slated for a handful of dates in select American cities.Less
