The Sky Is Crying (CD)
Stevie Ray Vaughan And Double Trouble
Amoeba Review

The Sky is Crying was assembled a year after Stevie Ray Vaughan’s untimely death in 1990, and it’s a treat to his fans. Previously unreleased material crops up and sounds just as good—if not better—than many of the tracks Vaughan had come to be known for during his lifetime. As a posthumous collection, you won’t find anything in the way of telling a single story, but this is perhaps to the album’s benefit because The Sky is Falling is disparate enough to deepen your sense of Vaughan’s varied talents as a musician and singer. “Boot Hill” is a rousing track with a wink and smile in which Vaughan plays slide guitar, while homage is paid on Vaughan’s version of Howlin’ Wolf’s, “May I Have a Talk with You.” The album turns more melancholy on the soul-baring acoustic number, “Life by the Drop.”
