Star Eaters Delight (LP)
Lael Neale
Amoeba Review
Lael Neale's Star Eaters Delight is just as idiosyncratic, esoteric, and enchanting as you'd assume from its title. The melodies feel conjured from a more otherworldly 1960s, blending French pop, psych, and proto-punk influences to create a dreamy yet rock show-ready sound. "Remember dancing? Remember magic?" Neale sings on opener "I Am the River," setting the tone for an album that takes inspiration from the sometimes forgotten wonders of daily life, literature ("In Verona"), and the historic landscapes of Britain ("Faster Than Medicine"). In a world where so much indie music feels like it has rolled off the assembly line at the factory, Star Eaters Delight revels in its strange beauty.
