The Wedding Present
Amoeba Review
Jeff Hunt 05/28/2010
In 1991, UK upstarts The Wedding Present went into the woods of rural Minnesota, to Pachyderm Studios, with recording legend Steve Albini. When they emerged ten days later, they had a rock ‘n’ roll masterpiece in tow. Albini is the perfect fit for the band’s careening dynamic, and TWP leader David Gedge’s romantic recriminations, jealousies, and libidinal preoccupations don’t just flare up on tracks like “Dalliance,” “Suck,” and “Corduroy,” they explode. The reissue version also contains the 3 Songs EP and the B-sides of the “Dalliance” and “Lovenest” singles. This is a significant record that is highly recommended – a rock classic.
