ROTATIONS: Troy Wallace
Amoeba Hollywood - August 23rd @ 8:00pm
Amoeba Hollywood hosts our guest DJ series, ROTATIONS, every Friday night!
While Troy Wallace has DJ'd everywhere from underground after-hours parties to corporate events, from Miami Music Week to intimate, private loft soirees, from Burning Man to the DTLA free roof top full moon gatherings of the late 90's, you can also add musician, party thrower, remixer, label exec, and music school prof. to the list of hats he's donned while on his eclectic, ever winding journey down through music's rabbit hole. A journey that includes working for both indie and major labels where he was influenced by and involved with a genre hopping range of artists & sounds covering a wide spectrum of styles, which may help to explain why he avoids pigeonholing his own as a DJ.
"I've always loved the underground house scene here on the west coast and nights out at legendary parties like Flammable Liquid, Wicked and Sublevel hearing mind bending sets by DJ's like Garth, Jeno & Doc Martin immediately come to mind, but I've been equally influenced by all kinds of sounds outside dance music as well, whether that's just losing touch with my mind to Spacemen 3 or being enveloped by the overwhelming sound of Spiritualized playing live with a full orchestra and choir, or feeling that beautifully sublime bass from the Orb rolling over and through me while the sun was coming up the side of a mountain way back at Organic in an earlier life. Those moments all tend to leave a lasting mark on you if you're into music, whether it's seeing Willy Wonka or The Wizard Of Oz, hearing Sister Sledge or Sister Nancy or encountering Lee Perry or Perry Farrell for the first time, and even the never-ending craziness of working at record labels and with artists like Morcheeba, The Flaming Lips, Jane's Addiction and all the rest. It all kinda bleeds it's way into the spirit of the things I like to play and that's kinda what makes playing an Amoeba Rotations set intriguing to me. It gives me a chance to go somewhere a bit different than what a club setting allows for and I'm looking forward to that."
Sounds from that like we can expect a healthy dose of bass and probably a visit to outer space, plus plenty more come August 23rd at Amoeba.
