Cocktails have found a sweet-spot that sounds somewhere between late '70's punk and power-pop, and that polished over-drive obsessed '90's guitar rock that bands like Fountains of Wayne, Teenage Fanclub, and The Rentals once made popular. On their debut LP, Adult Life, the San Francisco quintet have set themselves apart from their nostalgic contemporaries, ditching the worn out, unrequited high school love themes in favor of a much more sincere delivery: It's a relatable record about getting your shit together. They bring in catchy riffs, moog flourishes, guitar solos, and tons of boy/girl harmonies in all the right places - combining relentless infectious hooks with lyrics that might sound more appropriate on a Pulp record. It's blue-collar power-pop at its finest, but Cocktails sound current, giving the genre a much-needed makeover.

Also catch them at Thee Parkside with Paul Collins on January 21st.
