Jesus Was A Capricorn (CD)
Kris Kristofferson
Amoeba Review

Kris Kristofferson toiled for years as a songwriter in Nashville, starting at the very bottom, as a janitor at the studios for Columbia Records. He accumulated a treasure trove of material in advance of his debut, 1970's Kristofferson. However, he rushed through a number of records of original material in the next few years. Released in 1972, Jesus Was a Capricorn did reasonably well at first, thanks to the amusing, anti-establishment title track, which briefly appeared on the pop charts; but after that, the LP looked poised to fail. Then Brenda Lee had a hit covering “Nobody Wins,” and deejays keyed into the track “Why Me,” which was subsequently rushed to market as a single. It was the biggest hit of Kristofferson’s career.
