This jaunty take was recorded around Holiday’s commercial peak, in 1944 at the Metropolitan Opera House. As Holiday performed and recorded the song many times, her ease with the tune is palpable as she swings through it, swooping in and out of the higher end of her range, while her “All-Star Jam Band” keeps things swingin’, featuring Coleman Hawkins (tenor sax), Jack Teagarden (trombone), Art Tatum (piano) and others. For a live track recorded during the ’40s, the clarity is remarkable, as Holiday’s voice comes through crystal clear in this new restoration.
Beautifully remastered from the most pristine Vinyl sources available. Billie as you’ve never heard her!
