Fire Of Love (CD)
The Gun Club
Amoeba Review
Tiffany Anders 06/03/2010
Fire of Love was the first release for Los Angeles based punk blues band The Gun Club. Groundbreaking for its time, it has gone on to influence many bands today including The White Stripes. The late Jeffrey Lee Pierce howls and moans through the swampy blues landscape that is Fire of Love with partners Ward Dotson, Rob Ritter and Terry Graham. The album kicks off with “Sex Beat” a raucous, dirty, spine tingling shaker of a tune. Pierce does his excellent preacher on the corner howl on the gospel blues follow up track “Preaching the Blues.” And like a train screeching down the tracks full speed ahead with drummer Terry Graham at the helm, “She’s Like a Heroin to me” jolts with dirty slide guitars. The album was produced by Chris D. who was the front man of The Flesheaters and Tito Larriva of The Plugz. It remains one of the best roots punk album of it’s time.
