Switchboard Music Festival, Kronos Quartet

Switchboard Music Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary on Saturday, June 10th at Z Space in San Francisco with six hours of music! The festival, which runs from 3-9pm, will feature cellist Teddy Rankin-Parker performing music by Michael Beharie, Ryan Brown’s Mortal Lessons, Ramon and Jessica’s Roses are Blue, the SF Conservatory Percussion Quartet, Billygoat, Splinter Reeds, and a return performance by the Kronos Quartet.

The Switchboard Music Festival is the flagship event of San Francisco’s Switchboard Music, which supports the creation and performance of new music in the Bay Area by engaging artists and audiences from a wide variety of musical communities. The Switchboard Music Festival will present seven sets of eclectic music as well as a mid-Festival birthday party celebrating ten years of Switchboard.

Switchboard Music Festival

The ninth annual Switchboard Music Festival returns to Brava Theater in San Francisco on June 18 Tyondai Braxtonfrom 1-9pm. The eight-hour showcase of innovative music from the Bay Area and beyond features 12 sets by over 50 performers, ranging from raucous rock to a capella chorus to amplified mouthpiece-less saxophone to bona fide pop music! The line-up includes headliner Tyondai Braxton, the San Francisco Girls Chorus, the Del Sol String Quartet with composer Daniel Wohl, Aaron Novik’s O+O+, JacobTV’s GRAB IT!, violinist Alisa Rose, Religious Girls, Tonal Masher, Dominique Leone’s San Francisco, ZOFO piano duo, a new project from Majel Connery & Ken Ueno with The Living Earth Show, and Julius Eastman’s Stay On It.

Kitka Switchboard Music Festival

The eighth annual Switchboard Music Festival returns to San Francisco's Brava Theater on April 4th from 2-10pm. The eight-hour showcase of innovative music from the Bay Area and beyond features 13 sets of music, including the Real Vocal String Quartet, Kitka, Brass Magic, and the premiere of In C Re-Do -- a re-imagining of Terry Riley’s In C featuring contributions from over 50 composers.

In C Re-Do celebrates the 50th anniversary of Terry Riley’s In C, which is comprised of 53 individual cells of music that are performed by a malleable group of musicians who move through the score at their own pace, creating a slowly evolving soundscape. The In C Re-Do will start and end with Riley’s original cells, with each of the 51 remaining cells contributed by Switchboard artists past and present plus other members of the Switchboard community, including Glenn Kotche, Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Zoe Keating, Carla Kihlstedt, Fred Frith, Pamela Z, Samuel Adams, and all three Switchboard co-directors.

On Saturday, April 12th from 2-10pm at San Francisco's Brava Theater, Switchboard Music presents kronos quartetits seventh annual marathon music festival. Festival headliners Kronos Quartet will perform world premieres by Switchboard co-director Ryan Brown and Bay Area composer Sahba Aminikia. The Festival also includes performances of works by Bang on a Can’s Michael Gordon, Chicago Symphony resident composer Anna Clyne, Wojciech Kilar, Nicole Lizee, Tom Johnson, Julia Wolfe, and Deerhoof’s Greg Saunier. The complete 2014 lineup includes the Kronos Quartet, Matthew Welch’s Blarvuster, Dublin, Kate Campbell, Odessa Chen and the Invisible Stories Ensemble, Gamelan X, Jordan Glenn and Michael Coleman, Grex, Makeunder, Mobius Trio, and more.

The sixth annual Switchboard Music Festival brings its eclectic blend of performers and music to San Francisco’s Brava Theater on March 24th from 2-10pm. It's going to be a non-stop, eight-hour musical spectacle presenting composers and musicians who push the boundaries of their respective genres—be it rock, jazz, classical, hip-hop, world, or something less defined. It is a showcase for innovative local music that easily traverses disparate genres—a physical analog for a borderless, digital world. This year’s festival features groups both established and new, from the Bay Area and beyond.

The 2013 Festival features the piano duo ZOFO, whose most recent album, Mind Meld, was nominated for two 2013 Grammy awards; Subharmonic, led by Jazz Mafia’s Adam Theis; Ava Mendoza’s UNNATURAL WAYS; accordionist Rob Reich (of Tin Hat) and his quintet; and clarinetist Michael Lowenstern. The all-day festival will also feature performances by Addleds, Areon Flutes, Billygoat, Build, FutureCities, Ignition Duo, Oakland Active Orchestra, and bass clarinet duo Sqwonk
