Limited Edition Twin Peaks Color Vinyl Out September 22nd

Limited Edition Twin Peaks vinyl

With only a few episodes left in the long-awaited limited event TV run (aka Season 3) of Twin Peaks, it's time to face the truth that this might be it. No more soul-stirring moments at the Double R Diner. No more Agent Cooper in the guise of Dougie Jones bellowing "helloooooooo" at slot machines. And of course, no more dreamy closing numbers at the Roadhouse. But wait! There is something to hold onto, something to spin on your record player on those impending cold, Twin Peaks-less nights -- something that can make the magic last a little bit longer. Because music IS magic, right? In this case, it comes in the form of two indie exclusive color variants to the show's soundtrack and score LPs, coming September 22nd.

You can pre-order them now on Amoeba.com and they'll ship FREE to U.S. addresses. But hurry, these limited edition LPs won't last long! (Limit 1 per customer, please.)

amoeba best of 2014

All we do at Amoeba is listen to music and talk about music. Take advantage of how nerdy we are with this comprehensive best-of list from the year, which compiles new records from the best albums of 2014 lists made by Aaron Detroit, Brad Schelden, Oliver/Matt/Jordan, Billyjam and myself (click to see invidividual lists).

1. FKA TwigsLP1

fka twigs lp1FKA Twigs LP1 was one of those cross-genre, unclassifiable albums that everyone seemed to love. Not only the best debut record of the year, perhaps the best, period.

Brad's Top 50 Albums of 2014

douglas dare#1 Douglas Dare - Whelm (Erased Tapes)
There are always a couple of albums like this every year. And I always just patiently wait for them. I just never know where they are gonna come from. I loved this album after the first listen. This album would clearly end up on the top of my most listened to albums of the year. Which naturally makes it my favorite. It is one of those albums that I prefer to listen to by myself since I am never sure if anyone is gonna like it as much as I do. Your favorite albums are the ones you keep going back to. The ones you want to start over as soon as they end. This is that album for me. An album I will always have close to my heart. This album is basically just Douglas stripped down bare with his songs and his piano. It is beautiful and heartbreaking. A fantastic debut album.

mac demarco#2 Mac DeMarco - Salad Days (Captured Tracks)
Mac DeMarco's second album was one of my favorites of 2012. Here he is again with his fantastic third album. I am still not exactly sure why I can't stop loving this dude. I actually will forget how much I love him until I go and put on his albums again and then fall in love all over again. This new album is another perfect mellow pop album. Perfect for a lazy day. It gets under your skin and becomes part of you. There is just no denying the talent of this dude. I can't help but feeling sometimes that he has somehow tricked my into liking him. You seriously can't help but love this album. There is nothing upbeat about this album. However it still manages to make me so happy every time I listen to it.

Album Picks: Sharon Van Etten, Hundred Waters, Owen Pallett

Sharon Van Etten - Are We There (LP, Deluxe LP, CD, Download)

sharon van etten are we there lpSharon Van Etten's new release takes the sound she's been carefully crafting over four albums and injects it with a dose of drama, billowing out her songs until they threaten to overwhelm you with emotion. Ambition looks good on her—and the songs on Are We There even seem to address this change. Opener "Afraid of Nothing" gives her voice enough room to belt, shedding some of the modesty of her previous work. "Even I'm taking my chances" she sings knowingly over an electronic beat on "Taking Chances," that foray into electronica carrying over to songs like the delicate, Beach House-ish "Our Love." On showstopper "Your Love Is Killing Me," Van Etten gives it her all, imbuing the chorus with such emotion in her low vibratto, it's impossible not to get goosebumps. Yet even as she's clearly reaching for the brass ring on Are We There, Van Etten still sounds tastefully restrained when need be, never losing her cool. It's a win-win—new listeners will undoubtedly be taken with Van Etten's powerful voice and immaculately crafted songs, while longtime fans are bestowed her best album yet.

10 Albums to Look for in Late Spring

Posted by Billy Gil, May 13, 2014 04:35pm | Post a Comment

It feels like summer’s already here, but there are still plenty of great releases lined up for the tail end of this spring. Here are 10 we’re looking forward to that you can preorder now.

The Roots - …And Then You Shoot Your Cousin (LP, CD)

the roots and then you shoot your cousin lpOut May 19

Before they were Jimmy Fallon’s house band, The Roots were one of the most dynamic and socially conscious groups in hip-hop. “When the People Cheer” reminds us of how great they are as pure rappers, and it’s got a cool stop-motion video to boot.
