Dr. Dog - What's In My Bag? - Amoeba Music

Scott McMicken of Dr. Dog did some shopping at Amoeba Hollywood for our latest What's In My Bag? episode. "I done good," he told us, having dug for some records by his recent musical interests, including the odd-ball, experimental rockers Quintron and Miss Pussycat. Their album Swamp Tech/Electric Swamp was "something that was on the top of my list to suss out when I got here." He continued, "I've gotten really into the whole world of Quintron and Miss Pussycatm, which goes so far, even beyond music."

American rock band Dr. Dog fuses elements of iconic '60s pop acts like The Beatles and The Beach Boys with contemporary indie rock. Founded in Philadelphia in 1999, the band consists of childhood Dr. Dog - Critical Equationfriends Toby Leaman (bass guitar/vocals) and Scott McMicken (lead guitar/vocal), plus Frank McElroy (rhythm guitar), Zach Miller (keyboard), and Eric Slick (drums). The band coalesced while several of the members were attending West Chester University in Pennsylvania. Their first album, 2001's The Psychedelic Swamp, was self-recorded and self-released.

The Damned's forthcoming April 13 2018 album Evil Spirits (pre-order on CD)
& pre-order on Lp/vinyl precedes this summer's performance by the
veteran UK band at Burger Boogaloo 2018

If over the past few weeks you’ve driven by Telegraph Ave. and 40th Streets near the MacArthur BART station in North Oakland and looked up you’ll have noticed the big billboard for this year’s Burger Boogaloo festival that takes every summer just a few blocks away at Mosswood Park. That's where the excellent annual two-day outdoor festival will be again happening this year on the weekend of June 30th and July 1st. As seen in the new billboard’s large font, returning for his fourth year as the penultimate host will be the eternally entertaining John Waters. Meanwhile the 2018 musician lineup continues the quality hard-rocking caliber of previous Boogaloo lineups (last year Iggy Pop and The Buzzcocks ruled as headliners) with 2018 top billing going to Devo and The Damned. The Damned’s appearance coincides with recent news of the band’s first new album in a decade and their first since 2008’s  So, Who’s Paranoid. Entitled Evil Spirits the decidedly retro-sounding, soon-to-drop forthcoming Tony Visconti produced album will be released a week from today on April 13th.  But in the meantime you can pre-order Evil Spirits on CD and Evil Spirits on Lp/vinyl.

Amoeblog Exclusive: Moogfest Dial Tones LA, Dec 20th with YACHT, Nosaj Thing, & RSVP for limited space Synth Workshop

Posted by Billyjam, December 14, 2015 05:29pm | Post a Comment

In following last week's Amoeblog report on the richly diverse lineup for the Moogfest 2016 happening in Durham, NC in five months, here's an Amoeblog exclusive on the related Moogfest Dial Tones event in LA. Taking place at the Downtown Los Angeles Ace Hotel on Sunday, December 20th, Moogfest Dial Tones LA will be curated by acclaimed LA producer Nosaj Thing and feature a DJ after party on the rooftop curated by YACHT, who are among the 100+ acts scheduled for next May's festival dedicated to creator Dr. Robert Moog. Left is cover art of YACHT's most recent and most ambitious release to date. The album Thought The Future Would Be Cooler (also available in white vinyl) first arrived in Amoeba in October.

A kind of warm-up to the Moogfest 2016, the international Moogfest Dial Tones series began a week ago with a kickoff event in Durham.  In partnership with Ace Hotels, the Dial Tones series is a refreshing balance of creative workshops and performances. Think daytime synth workshops and nighttime synth drone performances.
