Phono Del Sol

The Bay Area’s beloved Phono del Sol festival returns to SF's Potrero del Sol Park in The Mission on Phono Del Sol 2019Saturday, June 15th from 12pm-7pm. Named San Francisco’s “Best Music Festival” by San Francisco Magazine, Phono del Sol promises a glorious summer afternoon filled with great music, food, and fun in SF’s beautiful Potrero Del Sol Park, which is also home to the city’s largest skate park. Attendees can enjoy artisanal drinks and local craft beers long with bites from some of the tastiest food trucks SF has to offer.

The Phono del Sol 2019 lineup features Domino Records’ synth-pop darling Porches; Seattle’s beloved indie rockers Chastity Belt; and Oakland’s own classically-trained hip-hop collective SOL Development, whose recent debut album, The SOL of Black Folk, showcases the power of healing through the art of hip-hop. Other Bay Area acts announced include math rock trio Covet from San Jose; East Bay experimental artist SPELLLING; Oakland’s bedroom-folk singer-songwriter Boy Scouts; and musician, composer, producer, and planetary scientist Salami Rose Joe Louis, who recently signed to seminal independent label Brainfeeder. Rounding out the day’s bill are the electro-pop icon AH-MER-AH-SU, budding MC and rapper Queens D.Light, and frenetic post-punk outfit Blues Lawyer.

THE CENTRAL AVENUE JAZZ FESTIVAL

Central Avenue Jazz Park

Every year for the past 17 years, during the last weekend in JulyLA residents and visitors are treated to the preeminent jazz event on the West Coast with The Central Avenue Jazz Festival. It’s free and open to the public – last year, 35,000 attended. The focus, of course, is live music but there are also craft and food booths. I've been meaning to check it out in the past and this I year finally did.
