Topping the hip-hop top five of the latest new arrivals into Amoeba Music is prolific Oakland rap star / label owner J.Stalin's brand new album My Dark Passenger  which follows on the heels of his previous 2017 full-length I Don't Sell Dope No Moe. Unleashed just a scant three months ago, that album similarly dropped on his successful homegrown indie rap label Livewire Records. Although officially not to be released until this Friday, June 16th, the eleven track new album My Dark Passenger  has been available from Amoeba a week in advance. With such select album guest collaborators as Young Doe, Da Hoodstarz, J. Stew and  4rAx, My Dark Passenger delivers more of that uncompromising West Oakland proud rap style/flow that continues the (now) decades old tradition of raw no-holds-barred Oakland street rap that fans love and the mainstream (generally speaking) continues to sleep on. According to those in the know, there's even more J.Stalin music coming in 2017 including a reputed DJ Fresh collaborative full-length.  Scroll down to the videos below for a taste of J.Stalin in 2017 with both the audio-only of the LT Beats produced My Dark Passenger title track featuring regular collaborator/Livewire artist Joseph Kay whose got an upcoming album entitled Rated X, plus the music video for the  I Don't Sell Dope No Moe track "Realist to Run It" also featuring Joseph Kay.

Berner "Come On" from his 2014 Bern One Ent album Drugstore Cowboy

That old adage "do what you love" is perfectly applicable to the weed loving, nationally acclaimed prolific Bay Area rapper Berner. For the past decade plus this rap artist, weed activist/entrepreneur born Gilbert Anthony Mano has crafted a unique and phenomenally lucrative and fun career, all the while balancing his two main life passions of weed and rap music. Having built a strong rep as rap recording and performing artist, to date Berner's rich back catalog boasts 14 albums including his most recent full-length release found at Amoeba,  Drought Season 3, which is just one of many dropped on his own prolific Bern One Ent. record label. Equally respected by rap fans and peers, Berner's countless studio collaborations over the years include full length releases with such fellow Bay Area artists as Messy Marv, Equipto and the late great rapper The Jacka with whom he recorded the three part aforementioned Drought Season trilogy. Others in the really long list of Berner collabs include B-Real, Snoop Dogg, Nipsey Hussle, Young Thug, and Too $hort. Perhaps even more widely known in hip-hop is his longstanding relationship and collaborative work with Wiz Khalifa. Having been down since day one with the Pittsburgh, PA based, fellow weed loving hip-hop star Wiz Khalifa, the Bay Area artist counts himself as among those part of Khalifa's elite Taylor Gang Ent. label crew along with such others as Project Pat, Chevy Woods, Ty Dolla $ign, and Tuki Carter.

Prolific West Oakland Rapper J.Stalin Returns To His Roots With Strong 14th Album "Tears Of Joy" On His Livewire Label

Posted by Billyjam, November 3, 2015 08:44am | Post a Comment

Since its release last Friday (October 30th), popular Bay Area rapper J.Stalin's latest album Tears Of Joy (Livewire) has been selling well at Amoeba, particularly at the stores in the Bay Area where the prolific longtime West Oakland rapper hails from. In fact, as a reminder to fans that the new album is out, the Livewire Records CEO commissioned a series of billboard ads round the Town (Oakland) in the weeks leading to the release. But the main reason why this new album is in demand is because it's a hit and fans were fiending for its release for some time now. So far the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, especially for the autobiographical "Selling Crack" (see new music video below), "Instagram Gangstaz (feat. L'Jay)" that pokes fun at this era's version of fake superficial studio gangstas, and album standout track "Think U Ready" that posthumously features a cameo from beloved Bay Area rap icon The Jacka who was killed earlier this year in East Oakland in a drive-by.  The album also features a touching tribute to the slain artist, "Jacka's Prayer."

Other artists guesting on the new album include Iamsu!, Riff Raff, Snow Tha Product, Mistah F.A.B., Rayven Justice, D-Lo, B-Legit, and Jonn Hart. Meanwhile, production credits go to some of the best including The Mekanix, DJ Fresh, and Junonnabeat. Fans of the Bay's rich mobb music legacy will appreciate this rap album that the artist himself considers it a return to form.

DJ Toure documentary (electronic press kit 2013)

Last Tuesday DJ Toure, DJ/producer and member of Oakland's longtime Hieroglyphics crew, released his long-awaited solo album, Toure's Theory: Session One, which initially was expected to drop last year but due to his busy schedule got bumped back until now. The prolific artist, who in addition to working with the Hieros crew including member Casual  has, over the years, produced tracks for the likes Too $hort, Freeway, Devin The Dude, Phonte, Father Dom, Beeda Weeda, The Grouch & Eligh, Goapele, E-40, and Forty Wata's rapper son Droop-E, has been down with the Hieros since day - initially joining the crew as the DJ for his (elementary school mate) Casual .
