The Fabulous Little Richard LP - a 2019 vinyl issue from the iconic artist who died this year

It may only be a bit past half way into the year but already it seems we’ve lost too many talentedmusicians in 2020. These include such artists as Little Richard, McCoy TynerKenny Rogers, Bill Withers whose Naked & Warm LP was recently released on 180 gram vinyl, Betty Wright, Florian Schneider of Kraftwerk, Bonnie Pointer, rapper Pop SmokeGenesis P-Orridge, Andy Gill of Gang of Four, Neil Peart of Rush and John Prine. Sadly Americana legend John Prine, whose upcoming vinyl reissue of D
iamonds In The Rough can be pre-ordered now, was just one of the many artists in 2020 to have died as a result of the coronavirus.  Others who tragically died due to the COVID-19 pandemic include jazz saxophonist Lee Konitz, African music icon Manu Dibango, Dave Greenfield of The Stranglers, gospel vocal star Troy Sneed, Adam Schlesinger of The Fountains of Wayne, 35 year old rapper Fred the Godson and 41 year old Broadway musical star Nick Cordero.

Hospitalized Genesis P-Orridge (Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV etc.) Reaches Out For Help In Life-Or-Death Scenario

Posted by Billyjam, March 13, 2019 05:58pm | Post a Comment

Recently hospitalized legendary experimental musician, multi-media artist and occultist Genesis Breyer P-Orridge reached out to friends and fans for help this week in what is reportedly a life-or-death scenario for the industrial music pioneer who first came to wide acclaim as the founding member of Throbbing Gristle. Via an Instagram post by the aritst followed by a more detailed mass email sent via e-flux by friend and associate Jason Louv it was noted, following a year long battle with leukemia, that over this past weekend Genesis had been rushed into a NYC area hospital. “She was unable to breathe without oxygen” after her lungs became “blocked with fluid, which her doctors had previously attempted to remove with a suction needle,” wrote Louv in the plea for help to fans and friends of Genesis P-Orridge whose most recent arrival at Amoeba was last November's reissue of the 1999 critically acclaimed collaborative album A Perfect Pain (also on vinyl LP) with Merzbow.

What Do You Want for Xmas (Hanukkah / Kwanzaa / Festivus)? A Few Ideas from Around the Interwebs

xmas christmas space baby jesus alien rocket ship ufo christ
Tis the season to freak out about what to get our loved ones.

It seems to get harder every year, as -- thanks to the internet -- the world becomes smaller and choice becomes more vast. How can you find that perfect gift for someone that not only has everything, but can get whatever they want online in a matter of minutes?

Here's the answer: outsmart them. Use this guide to scoop them on their own desires. They may not yet know they lust after these amazing items, but with the Amoeblog's help, you will reign victorious as this year's King / Queen of Christmas / Hanukkah / Kwanzaa / Festivus /  Winter Solstice.

For your old school punk:
San Francisco’s seminal punk band Crime was  formed in 1976 Crime band shirt merch Johnny Strike San Francisco punkand ripped post-hippie San Francisco a metaphorical new one when they released their first (and many say Punk’s first) single“Hot Wire My Heart / Baby You're So Repulsive.” They mixed a rebellious and sexually-charged image (they were most often seen flaunting their vampiric, just-outta-rehab good looks in tight leather, regulation police uniforms, or old-time gangster duds) with their unique blend of intellectual and furious lo-fi rock and roll. Crime found local refuge at the now legendary Mabuhay Gardens, but became nationally notorious after playing a gig at San Quentin Penitentiary in full police uniforms. (Read more about them on the Amoeblog.)

Now, after many years, you can purchase official Crime merch directly from original member Johnny Strike and his business partner Faustino Mendonça. Bootleggers be damned! Get some stunning shirts, posters, and pins from the source!

Dais Records Unearths COUM Transmissions

Posted by Aaron Detroit, August 11, 2009 04:00am | Post a Comment

Bicoastal boutique label Dais Records --founded in 2007 by Gibby Miller in L.A. and Ryan Martin in Brooklyn -- has, in its brief history, quickly amassed (with no signs of stopping) an impressive back-catalog of instantly classic releases by artists on the obscure and dark end of the spectrum. The label’s roster of quality limited vinyl pressings includes albums by Cult of Youth and Tor Lundvall as well as the sought-after Cold Cave 12”, The Trees Grew Emotions and Died.  The label has also developed a trusted working relationship with Genesis Breyer P-Orridge which has resulted in the vinyl release of Psychic TV’s recent full-length, Mr. Alien Brain vs. The Skinwalkers, and a haunting, previously unreleased 1968(!) archival recording from P-Orridge entitled Early Worm (now out of print).

A third upcoming team-up between P-Orridge and Dais is another archival release, entitled The Sound of Porridge Bubbling by the infamous COUM Transmissions. Its release will mark the first time most will hear COUM Transmissions, a transgressive performance art collective and band founded, in part, by P-Orridge in 1967 (whose detailed story can be read in a 1999 illustrated biiography entitled Wreckers of Civilisation by Simon Ford). By the time Sound was recorded in 1971 its members also included Cosey Fanni-Tutti and, by 1976, eventually evolved into the seminal and forever holy/unholy Throbbing Gristle.

The recordings went unreleased until now due to the rapid activity of the collective pushing them off as a priority.  However, now that the seal on the vault has been cracked, further COUM archive releases via Dais are also in the works .

The Sound of Porridge Bubbling (complete with  liner notes by Genesis!) will be available very soon from Amoeba Hollywood. The Hollywood store has secured several copies of this already sold-out and landmark release and will have them on hand as soon as the label gets them from the plant!

EIGHT DAYS TO EIGHT EIGHT EIGHT (08:08:08)

boredoms
It is exactly 8 days to 8-8-8 (aka August 8th, 2008), when many noteworthy events are scheduled to take place, including, of course, the kick off of the Olympics in Beijing and such lesser publicized events as World Hoop Day. 8-8-8 is also the date for the Boredoms' 88BoaDrum show.

This free large scale drumming concert, which takes place in LA.'s Hancock Park, is scheduled to start at exactly 8:08PM next Friday (August 8th). The show is a sequel to last July 7th's 77BoaDrum celebration in Brooklyn, NY. As you probably already know from reading this website, the event will feature a total of 88 drummers performing for 88 minutes. As you also most likely know if you are an Amoeba fan, two weeks ago the Hollywood store gave away a chunk of tickets for this big, free (but so in demand that the free tix became a premium) event. Check out the blog I did on last year's 77BoaDrum.

Another music-related event scheduled for 8-8-8 at exactly 8 o'clock is when Genesis P-Orridge of Psychic TV has announced that he/she will have the final surgery in the ongoing series of gender reassignment operations in the unique Pandrogeny Project (a love story of gender reunion), that he/she and his/her late partner/collaborator Lady Jaye, who tragically died suddenly late last year, were going through together -- essentially a process whereby they were attempting to become one and the same person, or as close to it as physically/mentally possible.
