Trixie Mattel - What's In My Bag?

Singer, actor, comedian, and drag queen Trixie Mattel did some shopping recently at Amoeba Hollywood and kept us laughing throughout the entire What's In My Bag? interview. Trixie's '90s nostalgia was on full display, as was her wit, charm, and ability to recall countless movie lines. Not only that, but she talked about some of her favorite music and comedy records and shared the unexpected album that inspired her to start playing guitar.

Trixie Mattel first attracted notice as a contestant on season seven of RuPaul's Drag Race in 2015. She made a triumphant return during the third season of RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars, where she won the competition in the final lip sync battle. She also competed in 2018's RuPaul's Drag Race Holi-slay Spectacular.

Outside of her Drag Race fame, Mattel has teamed up with fellow contestant Katya Zamolodchikova for the comedy web series UNHhhh and the Viceland program The Trixie & Katya Show. She has toured extensively with her comedy act, with her newest tour, "Now with Moving Parts" captured in the forthcoming documentary Trixie Mattel: Moving Parts. In 2017, she released the country-folk album Two Birds via ATO Records. One Stone was released the following year. (The two albums are available on one LP as Two Birds, One Stone.) She has named June Carter Cash and Dolly Parton as two of her greatest musical influences.

Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Out Under the Stars series will screen Amy Heckerling’s ’90s teen classic Clueless on Aug. 28 at Hollywood Forever.

Tickets start at $20 and are available here. Doors are at 7 p.m., and the screening starts at dusk. Picnics on Hollywood Forever’s lawn are encouraged (beer and wine are fine to bring).

Amoeba will be on hand with a booth and tent, featuring the prize wheel. We’ll have gay cinema and rainbow Amoeba T-shirts for sale, so come by and say hello!

The screening is presented by Los Angeles Women’s Network and Young Professionals Council. Proceeds from the event benefit the Los Angeles LGBT Center. For more information on the center’s services, please visit lalgbtcenter.org.

Clueless, starring Alicia Silverstone as a superficial but well-intentioned teen living in Beverly Hills, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. DJ Casey Alva will spin tunes before the screening, and Elisa Donovan (who plays Amber Mariens in the film) will make a special guest appearance. Don’t miss it!
