1990's Promo Pics Pt IIX: N.W.A, Ice Cube, Westside Connection, Sister Souljah, B-Legit, Premiere, UNLV, E-A-Ski, Chill-E-B, Zion I

The Westside Connection power trio, featuring Ice Cube, Mack 10, and WC, are photographed above in the 1990's promo pic along with Jamie Foxx during a 1997 shoot for The Jamie Foxx Show television show.  On that episode, that first aired on the WB network February 12th, 1997, the LA rap supergroup  did a four minute acting scene plus performed their (then current) single "Gangstas Make The World Go Round." That track was culled from their 1996 released album Bow Down whose other popular tracks included the funk-fueled title track hit single.

The Westside Connection promo pic is just one of three featuring Ice Cube in this latest 1990's Promo Pics Amoeblog series. The other two below are both from the artist's two-part War & Peace Pt. I + War & Peace Pt 2 album (also avail on vinyl/LP Vol 1 and vinyl/LP Vol 2) promo package in this latest series installment.  Also featured below is Cube's famous pioneering gangsta rap group N.W.A but after he had left the group to pursue his successful solo career and their membership was pared-down to the core quartet of Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, DJ Yella and MC Ren.

1990's Promo Pics Pt VI: Andre Nickatina, Mack 10, 11/5, George Clinton, Above The Law, Erykah Badu, Red Hot Chili Peppers, DJ Quik

The above Andre NIckatina promo pic was taken by Bay Area photographer Timi D.... in 1998 for both the artist formerly known as Dre Dog's Fillmoe Coleman company and for long defunct label DogDay Records who that year released the longtime prolific San Francisco rapper's album Raven In My Eyes.  The promo/publicity photo is one of ten photos in this sixth installment of the 1990's Promo Pics Amoeblog series. The series is a tribute to artists as well as the photographers and record labels responsible for sending them out at the time. The previous posts in this series (1990's Promo Pics Part I Part II, Part III , Part IV and Part V)  included such artists as Das EFX, The RootsMasta Ace Incorporated and Black Sheep.  In addition to the usual rap artist pictures, this latest installment also includes a few non hip-hop artists.

GURU's Jazzmatazz Chrysalis/EMI 1996 promo pic by Thierry Le Goues


The above Jazzmatazz promo pic by Thierry Le Goues for Empire Management was sent out by the Chrysalis/EMI publicity department in 1996 as part of the press package for GURU's Jazzmatazz Volume II The New Reality. That was the side project by Gang Starr's GURU (Gifts Unlimited Rhymes Universal) in which he collaborated with over 20 different talented artists including Donald Byrd, Ronny Jordan, Freddie Hubbard, Chaka Khan, Ramsey Lewis and Kool Keith. It's one of eleven photos in this latest installment of the 1990's Promo Pics Amoeblog series. The series is a tribute to artists as well as the photographers and record labels responsible for sending them out at the time. The previous posts in this series (1990's Promo Pics Part I Part II, Part III , and Part IV)  included such artists as The Roots, Ras KassA Tribe Called Quest, Tha Alkaholiks, Big Daddy Kane,  Beastie Boys, DJ QUIK, The Beatnuts, O.C.Masta Ace Incorporated and Black Sheep.  This latest installment series, featuring mostly 1995 and 1996 promos shots, includes such artists, photographers, and labels as the Mercury Records photo of Blahzay Blahzay by Sue Kwon, Profile Records pictures of both Special Ed (by Micheal Benabib) and MT (by Tim Carter), Relativity's promo shot by B+ of Mac Vo, Gee Street's photo of P.M. Dawn by Chris Cuffaro, East West's pic of Das EFX by Butch Belair, and Prince Markie Dee of the Fat Boys fame pic for Motown. Others include Panther the Apache's pic by Brian Jahn for Boom Sonic Records, The Justin Warfield Supernaut's pic by Stephen Stickler for Quest/Reprise, and The Dove Shack for the Def Jam/Rush Associated Labels (RAL).
