Amoeba Hip-Hop Top 5 of the Week June 26 2019

Initially unveiled back in December The Grouch’s is now available as a double vinyl Unlock The Box White Vinyl 2LP set via European label The twelve track album from the Living Legends member include “Unconditional (feat Rio Amor),” “Feel Alone,” “Fish Fly (feat Keili Love)” and “Good Gold (feat Myka 9).” Other new hip-hop releases to arrive into Amoeba this current week include Los Angeles producer/DJ Ras G's Down 2 Earth, Vol. 4 vinyl LP (Ghetto Sci Fi), clipping Face vinyl LP + cassette (Deathbomb Arc), and LA beat scene vet Dibia$e's Bonus Levels vinyl LP (10 Thirty/Fat Beats). Also new to Amoeba's shelves this week is Injury Reserve’s self titled new album whose Amoeba review describes the Arizona indie rap trio as pushing “the boundaries of hip-hop on their innovative, excellent self-titled full-length…..” and recalling how “the band got their start playing basement punk shows and there’s definitely a correlation in terms of ethos and aesthetic. Throw some jazz-funk melodies in the mix, get weird on some experimental moments.”

   Black Moon “Creep Wit Me” (2019)

With the “Creep Wit Me” (song music video above) Black Moon are back and in style with the brand new single off the anticipated forthcoming 2019 album Rise of Da Moon. The new throwback-feeling track captures the vibe and sound (production and lyrical wise) of Black Moon’s landmark 1993 golden era hip-hop classic album Enta Da Stage with such singles as “Who Got The Props”  that, vinyl collectors take note, got reissued on 7” last year by Nervous Records and still available from Amoeba here.

The 90’s Brooklyn hip-hop legendary act are one of two Duck Down acts to make power moves in 2019 with strong new releases.

Fellow BK Duck Down act Smif-N-Wessun earlier this year dropped the powerful album The All LP (Duck Down Records) with the album’s latest single being “Ocean Drive (feat. Musiq SoulChild)” seen below. And to celebrate these two 2019 album tomorrow in Brooklyn NY both acts are throwing a free concert and BBQ.

Part of the ongoing City of New York Parks Dept. sponsored “Summerstage” series the 6-9pm event in Betsy Head Park will also include performances from LOWfi (Jayy Grams, Hayelo and Von Wilda), Lil D, DJ Evil Dee, Deejay Logic and DJ RellyRell. Another recommended forthcoming summer 2019 hip-hop album release will be the Freddie Gibbs  / Madlib collaborative Bandana CD and on vinyl LP that you can pre-order now from Amoeba a month ahead of its scheduled July 26th release by RCA Records.

The 45 minute, 15 track album’s select few guests will include  Anderson .PaakPusha T, Killer Mike, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) and Black Thought.   Pre-order  Bandana CD and on vinyl LP  or order the advance 12” single of “Flat Tummy Tea” that dropped back in March  Below is the music video for the forthcoming album’s track “Crime Pays.”
