record store day at Amoeba Hollywood Recap

At Amoeba Hollywood, fans began lining up the night before for their shot at grabbing some of this year's most exciting limited edition Record Store Day exclusive releases. When we opened our doors this morning, we were impressed by the passion, dedication, and celebratory spirit of the folks waiting in line, many of whom have visited Amoeba on Record Store Day for several years in a row!

Our friends at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf were on hand bright and early this morning, serving up coffee and pastries to the the dedicated crew hanging out on the corner of Sunset and Ivar. Also pictured below is our newest t-shirt with a limited edition floral logo! This shirt made its debut on Record Store Day and is available in-store only at Amoeba Hollywood in sizes XS-XXL.

In addition to the usual slew of collectible LPs, 7"s, and picture discs, there were also day-long deals on used DVDs and Blu-rays (25% off). Turntables were 20% off (excluding the adorable and awesome RSD3 Mini Turntable). All mugs and used books were also 20% off.

Posters -- including framed, collectible, and weirdly dreamy press shots -- were also 20% off.

Once we opened our doors, things really kicked into high gear. Our hardworking staff helped fill RSD menu orders, pulled limited edition titles for customers, and handed out gift bags.

At noon, the wizards over at Family Industries broke out the live t-shirt and tote silkscreening, creating custom RSD shirts to celebrate the special day. All proceeds benefited the Silverlake Conservatory of Music. Huge thanks to ANTI- / Epitaph Records for once again helping to make the t-shirt silkscreening a smashing success!

Record Store Day 2019 Tshirt Designs

Our four limited edition designs for Record Store Day 2019. Family Industries designed the first two. Brooklyn pop-punk band THICK designed the one in pink and you probably recognize the final design as our very own What's In My Bag? logo.

Our special guest DJ sets also started at noon. First up was Samira Winter and Ian from LA indie rock band Winter.

An hour later, our outdoor village began bustling with food, drink, and all kinds of fun for humans and pets alike. RSD fans spun the prize wheel for a chance to win some amazing prizes from Audio-Technica, Sennheiser, Urbanears, Skullcandy, and lots, lots more. All proceeds benefited the Downtown Women's Center.

We didn't forget shoppers' furry friends, either -- Weruva kindly passed out samples of their healthy dog and cat food.

HeadCount

The good people at HeadCount, a non-partisan voting rights org, helped register new voters as part of their mission connecting with musicians to participate in the democratic process.

Guatemalan singer-songwriter/guitarist Gaby Moreno took over the turntables at 2pm, providing an eclectic audio atmosphere. If you're not familiar with Moreno yet, keep an eye (ear?) out for her upcoming album with the legendary Van Dyke Parks.

Closing out the day's live entertainment was a DJ set by actor/writer/podcaster Jason Mantzoukas from 4-5pm. Perhaps best known for his roles on FXX’s The League, Netflix’s Big Mouth, FOX/NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and NBC’s The Good Place, he has also appeared on I'm Sorry, Kroll Show, Modern Family, Transparent, Broad City, Parks and Recreation, Enlightened, and Community. He has appeared in films like 2018 Sundance contender The Long Dumb Road, The House, The Dictator, How To Be Single, Sleeping With Other People, Neighbors, and the forthcoming John Wick 3. But you may also recognize him his incredibly epic episode of our own web series, What's In My Bag?.

Fun fact: today Jason's very first DJ set!

After the festivities wound down, we relocated our remaining RSD releases onto the floor near the electronic vinyl section. Some of this year's sought-after titles included Fleetwood Mac's Alternate Fleetwood Mac LP, Bob Dylan's Blood On The Tracks [Original New York Test Pressing] LP, the Lost In Translation soundtrack LP, and Weezer's Dusty Gems & Raw Nuggets LP.

Didn't get what you wanted? We'll start listing available stock on Amoeba.com at 5am PT on Sunday, 4/14.
