#1  Various Artists Gangster Music Vol. 1 (also on CD) (All City Records)

Topping the hip-hop vinyl from over the past week to arrive into Amoeba Music is the must-get 2LP set Gangster Music Vol. 1 that's also available on CD.  The compilation comes via Dublin's All City Records and was carefully curated by the Irish label's owner O.B. who also runs the record/graff supply store of the same name in the Irish capital.  27 tracks deep of high-caliber hip-hop, this collection is bound to appeal to fans of labels like Rhymesayers, Mello Music Group and Stones Throw. In fact several of the artists on this new compilation have previously released music via those three hip-hop labels.  Among the artists on Gangster Music Vol. 1  are Jeremiah Jae,  Jonwayne,  MNDSGN,  Madchild, Kaytranada,  Blu, Oh No & Madlib, Your Old Droog,  Defari & Evidence, All City regular Onra and Quelle Chris

Speaking of Quelle Chris, whose collaborative album Everything's Fine 2LP (also on CD) with studio and life partner Jean Grae, ranked among the best hip-hop albums of 2018, reminder that the multi-talented artist's anticipated next solo 2LP concept album Guns is scheduled to drop at the end of this month via Mello Music/Sony. Meanwhile below is the music video for the Gangster Music Vol. 1 track "Big Whips" by the power duo of Madlib and Oh No.

Further below that video are the remaining top ten vinyl picks of the past week + the bonus funk album reissue of the week. Included in the hip-hop vinyl are two seven inch releases; the red vinyl, battle beat breaks DJ tailored  Knockouts Vol. 2  by DJ Sausage Fingaz and TRDMRK's (Slimkid3, DJ Nu-Mark & Austin AntoinePick It Up that's released on Nu-Mark's Hot Plate Recordswho a few months ago for Black Friday dropped the incredible Nu-Mark feat. Method Man 7" single "Zodiac Killah."

The two recently released must-get albums from Brooklyn proud label Duck Down Records are also featured in this new top ten vinyl chart. These include the powerful return of Brooklyn hip-hop vets Smif-N-Wessun on The All LP (also on CD) plus 86 Witness LP which is the latest posthumous release from the endlessly talented late great emcee Sean Price whose sudden tragic death back in 2015 at age 43 shocked the hip-hop world. But thanks to Duck Down, who also released the 2017 Price album Imperius Rex 2LP (also on CD), and to producer Small Professor, Price's legacy is kept alive and well into 2019 with the release of the recommended new ten-song 86 Witness LP that comes also on CD with a bonus five tracks.

UK female hip-hop talent Little Simz has unleashed another great album with her third full-length release Grey Area LP (AGE 101) (also on CD) in which she evaluates life from the perspective of someone in their mid-twenties. Another recommended new non-American hip-hop release is Blessing In Disguise LP (Mello Music) from Ontario, Canada producer Elaquent whose self-described bio reads in part that he spent, "this decade forging a style all his own, internalizing the sounds of great producers like J Dilla and DJ Premier, but glitching and altering them to the point where his voice became inimitable."

In celebration of its fifth anniversary Def Jam has reissued on double-vinyl  Rick Ross'  successful, sixth studio, number one charting album; 2014's Mastermind 2LP that featured the hits "Devil Is A Lie (feat. Jay-Z), and "Sanctified (feat. Kanye West & Big Sean). This new two-album pressing is the previously CD only DeLuxe version of that album.  21 Savage's late December 2018 CD release is now available in double-vinyl set from Amoeba:  I Am > I Was 2LP (Epic Records) which most fans agree is his most consistently strongest album to date.

Speaking of hella popular contemporary hip-hop artists,  Future's much talked latest album (released last month on CD)  Hndrxx Presents: The WIZRD 2LP (Epic)which is the sequel to HNDRXX can be ordered from Amoeba now in advance of its March 15th vinyl street/release date. The 20 track new album's few select featured guests include Young Thug, Gunna and Travis Scott (Note: Astroworld 2LP is still available at Amoeba).
