For his powerful new album An Angel Fell (Strut/Afrostrut), saxophonist  Idris Ackamoor along with legendary ensemble The Pyramids, use their other worldly take on jazz as the perfect platform to address what Ackamoor sees as today's key social issues, among them climate change and its long term impact. Another issue is the age old one of police and race as explored in the new album track "Soliloquy For Michael Brown."  Today May 18th at 5pm  Idris Ackamoor will be at Amoeba San Francisco for a special in-store live set plus album signing session of An Angel Fell (upcoming vinyl/2LP).

“The songs explore global themes that are important to me and to us all: the rise of catastrophic climate change and our lack of concern for our planet, loss of innocence and separation... but positive themes too, the healing power of music, collective action and the simple beauty of nature......I wanted to use folklore, fantasy, and drama as a warning bell,” explained the artist in the preview for today's Amoeba SF In Store

An Angel Fell's production credits go to Malcolm Catto of The Heliocentrics who spent an "intense week" recording in London's Quatermass Studios. The result is an album that's been compared to the veteran artist's acclaimed early 70's beginnings. Tracks include "Land Of Ra," "Warrior Dance," "Sunset," and "Message To People."

The Pyramids San Francisco roots, as noted in the show preview, recall how after migrating to San Francisco in 1977 that the pioneering group soon after disbanded. Fast forward three and a half decades to 2012 when the band reformed, reportedly from an ever growing interest generated by crate diggers just discovering their pioneering sound.  Disko B released the freeform album Otherwordly, and two years ago Idris Ackamoor and The Pryamids released the acclaimed album We All Be Africans (avail on vinyl/LP) that was also released on Strut Records' Afrostrut. Below is some classic seventies era Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids concert footage. Today's in store at Amoeba San Francisco is at 5pm with a signing  An Angel Fell (upcoming vinyl/2LP).
