U.S. Girls Amoeba Green Room Session

Singer/songwriter Meghan Remy packed a 7-piece band into the Amoeba Hollywood green room for a set of moody, danceable songs from the new U.S. Girls album. On In a Poem Unlimited, Remy expanded her sonic reach and enlisted the help of many collaborators, including the Toronto-based funk collective the Cosmic Range. As heard in set opener "Pearly Gates," which features a sly bass line, sharp guitar licks, and eerie horn lines, the ace live musicians give her socially conscious lyrics a funky and darkly fun beat. Remy and company go Blondie on the disco-poppy "M.A.H.," while "Rage of Plastics" gets sludge-y and dirty with fuzzed out guitar leads and a squealing sax solo. The tone of closer "Sororal Feelings" rides the line between tension-filled and airy, all the while building with emotion.
