17 Record Store Day Releases to Look For

It's wish list time! The good people behind Record Store Day have outdone themselves this year, with a bumper crop of limited edition, long out of print, colored vinyl, and just plain cool exclusives hitting our shelves on Saturday, April 21st. Old favorites receive a celebratory nod. Unreleased tracks by classic acts will be unleashed upon the world. Impressive new works shine in the RSD spotlight. There's something for everyone, whether your interests lean towards classic R&B, dreamy indie, psychedelic tropicalia, and everything in between. Read on to discover the new releases we're excited about this Record Store Day.

The Cure - Mixed Up and Torn Down (LP)

The Cure's 1990 remix album Mixed Up comes out on a limited edition double-LP picture disc. Also available is Torn Down aka (Mixed Up Extra) featuring sixteen new remixes by Robert Smith. Both are on vinyl for the first time and limited to a worldwide run of 7,500.

Bowie Now Record Store Day

David Bowie - Bowie Now (LP)

Originally released as a promotional LP only, this is the first commercial release of a rare 1977 US compilation featuring songs drawn from Low and Heroes. Out on white vinyl.


Cheech and Chong Record Store Day

Cheech & Chong - Up in Smoke (7")

Reissued in honor of the 40th anniversary of Cheech & Chong's first and most famous movie, Up In Smoke this picture disc 7”comes in the shape of a marijuana leaf and includes a scratch and sniff sticker. Includes title track “Up In Smoke” as well as an unreleased version with a Spanish verse by Cheech.

Led Zeppelin Friends Rock and Roll

Led Zeppelin - "Friends"/"Rock and Roll" (7")

Led Zeppelin's first RSD release features two previously unreleased tracks, both produced by Jimmy Page. Out on yellow vinyl.

Mac Demarco record store day

Mac DeMarco - Old Dog Demos (LP)

An RSD exclusive release, fans will dig these previously unreleased demos and instrumentals on yellow vinyl. Limited to 2,500.

Madonna You Can Dance Record Store Day

Madonna - You Can Dance (LP)

Originally released in 1987, Madonna's first remix album hasn't been available on vinyl in thirty years. Out on red vinyl with a poster and obi strip à la the original European release.

Notorious BIG Juicy record store day

The Notorious B.I.G. - "Juicy" (12")

One of the greatest hip-hop singles of all time is back on vinyl for the first time since 1994. Pressed on black/clear marble effect vinyl.

Soft Cell Say Hello record store day

Soft Cell - "Say Hello Wave Goodbye"/"Youth Reimagined" (12")

Featuring new extended versions of tracks "Say Hello Wave Goodbye" and "Youth Reimagined" on 180-gram clear vinyl. Described by RSD as "exquisite period reimaginings," the new versions were concocted by Dave Ball using the original 1982 recordings.

Sufjan Stevens Mystery of Love

To find inspiration for his contributions to the Call Me By Your Name soundtrack, Sufjan Stevens drew from the film script, the book upon which it was based, and conversations with director Luca Guadagnino. The result is this three-song EP, out on transparent 10" vinyl for its very first pressing.

Out of print since 1990, the release of The Sundays' debut album completes RSD's cycle of exclusive vinyl reissues for the band. Available on 180-gram vinyl.

Swans record store day

SwansDie Tur Ist Zu (LP)

Originally released only in Germany, this 1996 album is out on vinyl for the first time. Die Tur Ist Zu (The Door Is Closed) will be available as a 2-LP with three sides of music and a fourth side featuring art by Swans bandleader Michael Gira.


The Who The Kids are Alright

The WhoThe Kids Are Alright (LP)

The companion album to The Who's 1979 doc of the same name gets the deluxe vinyl reissue treatment. Features blue and red heavyweight colored vinyl with a twenty-page booklet and the original LP packaging. Back in print on vinyl for the first time in years.
