Amidst an already deeply depressing news day yesterday, dominated by shocking details of the latest American mass shooting tragedy, we also learned that we lost an American rock music icon. Tom Petty died yesterday following a cardiac arrest. The singer. songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist was 66 years of age. A true American rocker whether as solo artist, as Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, or with supergroup The Traveling Wilburys that he co-founded, Petty was known for his American roots infused music and will be remembered forever from such hits as “American Girl,” “Refugee,” “Don’t Do Me Like That,” “Here Comes My Girl,” and “Free Fallin’.” Petty’s sudden death was both unexpected and “shocking” (as Bob Dylan called it), coming at at a time when he and the Heartbreakers were in the midst of a 40th anniversary tour with dates that included the the Hollywood Bowl. In fact Petty’s very final performance was at that Los Angeles venue just one week ago on September 25th, 2017. Below is a fan made video of the final two songs of that show with Petty and band performing “American Girl” and “You Wreck Me.” Below that concert clip, in remembrance of Tom Petty, a list of ten Tom Petty albums on vinyl/LP.
