The New 88.5 FM

Turn up the volume Southern California and set your radio dial to 88.5 FM. The recently-launched Triple A (Adult Album Alternative format) station is the result of a partnership between KCSN and KSBR-FM, resulting in the bigger and better station formally calling itself The New 88.5 FM. And by "bigger," we mean bigger -- the station claims to have "the largest coverage area expansion in public radio history," giving it the biggest reach of any public radio station. Listeners will be able to tune into the station's commercial-free blend of old favorites, emerging artists, and promising locals from Santa Clarita to San Clemente, across the Valley, the Los Angeles metro area, and down into Anaheim, Long Beach, Costa Mesa and Irvine. Certain areas of Ventura County will also be able to pick up the signal and of course, the station streams online, too. 88.5FM coverage map

KCSN has been a huge supporter of local Los Angeles music for years, helping to establish the careers of multiple artists and counting the late luminary Tom Petty among their many fans. 88.5 FM is a station for music fans by music fans, with an excellent team at the helm. You'll probably recognize many of the names currently lighting up your airwaves, including Program Director Sky Daniels, who was recently recognized as one of the top ten most influential rock radio PDs in the nation by Billboard Magazine. Having departed KCRW for 88.5 FM, Nic Harcourt is the beloved voice of the new station's morning show. Other members of the station's fantastic on-air lineup include Jim Nelson, Harry Shearer, Robert Hilburn, Jed The Fish, Julie Slater, Garrison West, and Kevin Bronson. Keep an ear out for well-known syndicated music shows such as World Cafe, Saturday With The Beatles, The Dylan Hour, and Acoustic Cafe, as well.

Obviously, this is huge for local radio and our music community and we're excited to be a part of 88.5 FM's history in the making! To celebrate the launch, Sheryl Crow is headlining an Amoeba-sponsored benefit for the station on Monday, October 23rd at the Fonda Theatre. We'll be at the venue selling her latest album, Be Myself, and giving away fun promo items. We hope you'll come out and welcome the station to the airwaves!
