The British born singer, songwriter, actress and fashion icon only scheduled a total of four concert dates for 2017 including an upcoming September 26th show at London’s Barbican Centre. Her select US date is scheduled for February 1st, 2018 at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Pre-sale tix begin tomorrow (Sept 20th) at 10am (Eastern) avail online and by phone at 212.247.7800. So far the only other announced 2018 concerts by the artist, whose shows all sell out, is January 10th, 2018 at Opéra Théâtre in Limoges, France

Birkin’s beloved late husband Serge Gainsbourg, who died in 1991, was a prolific musician (as well as novelist, filmmaker and actor) with a broad musical sensibility that encompassed such genres as classical, rock, jazz, chanson, and reggae. Hip-hop artists such as De La Soul (Prince Paul production) have sampled the widely admired French artist while direct contemporary musical influences of his include such artists as Yo La Tengo, Beck, and Tame Impala. Revered specialty reissue label Light In The Attic released titles by the artist including a 2000 vinyl/LP pressing of Jane Birkin  Serge Gainsbourg.  That release includes the classic sultry “Je Taime…Moi Non Plus” (scroll down to see 1970 video).  Wrasse Records more recently reissued in deluxe edition the 44 year old recording Jane & Serge 1973.

Birkin’s recently released tribute album to her late former husband, the 21 song Birkin/Gainsbourg: Le symphonique (also avail on LP/vinyl),  features symphonic versions of classic Gainsbourg songs from various stages of his career. These include “L'Aquoiboniste,” “Valse De Melody,”  “Jane B” and “Baby Alone in Babylone.” The latter two, which were about Birkin, were written when Birkin and Gainsbourg separated after twelve years of marriage.

“It is a privilege that one of the greatest French writers wrote for me from the age of 20 to 45,” said Birkin in a prepared statement. Birkin’s inspiration for Birkin/Gainsbourg: Le symphonique (also avail on LP/vinyl) came from the realization that a full symphonic project was a natural next step for the music of an artist whose legacy was so closely intertwined with classical music.
