Neil Young Vinyl Reissues

We've got good news for fans of the legendary Neil Young! Four new, old releases (or as we in the record biz like to call 'em, "reissues") are about to hit our shelves on August 18th. You can pre-order them from us now and they'll ship FREE to U.S. addresses.

Released between 1977-1979, these vinyl LPs mark one of the many career high points for the talented singer-songwriter; soon you'll be able to spin newly spiffed up copies of American Stars 'n Bars, Comes a Time, Rust Never Sleeps, and Live Rust on your record player. This all comes in advance of the release of Hitchhiker, a "lost" acoustic album originally recorded at Malibu's now-defunct Indigo Ranch Studios in 1976. Of course, new (old) music from Mr. Young is always a treat but there's a certain pleasure to revisiting old favorites.

Here's why we're looking forward to each new August reissue.

American Stars 'n Bars

American Stars 'n Bars (1977)

Featuring singles "Hey Babe" and "Like a Hurricane," American Stars 'n Bars spotlights Young's usual backing band Crazy Horse on seven of the nine eclectic tracks. Emmylou Harris makes an appearance on "Star of Bethlehem" and Linda Ronstadt and Nicolette Larson share backing vocal duties on five songs.

Comes a Time

Comes a Time (1978)

Young made a return to his country-folk stylings on Comes a Time. Originally planned as a solo album, he instead teamed up with Crazy Horse for the LP. Nicolette Larson features prominently on the record and J.J. Cale shows up to lend a hand, too. The album peaked at #7 on the Billboard pop charts, with single "Four Strong Winds" making it to #61.

Rust Never Sleeps

Rust Never Sleeps (1979)

The majority of Rust Never Sleeps was recorded live at The Boarding House club in San Francisco, then overdubbed in the studio. Considered one of Young's best albums, the LP is a mix of acoustic and electric compositions, bookended by different versions of "Hey Hey, My My."

Live Rust

Live Rust (1979)

Consisting of tracks recorded during the Rust Never Sleeps tour, Live Rust was certified gold in 1980 and went platinum in 1988. Unlike previous CD releases that were limited to 74 minutes, this double-LP features the entire original length album.
