Hip Hop Top 5 06:05:17

1: Freddie GIbbs You Only Live 2wice vinyl EP (ESGN)

2: Funky DL Autonomy: The 4th Quarter 2 (Washington Classics)

3: Gensu DeanWise Intelligent G.o.D. (Mello Music Group)

4: Blacastan & Stu Bangas  The Uncanny Adventures Of Watson & Holmes  (Brick Records)

5: Slum Village Vol. O (Nestra Music Group)

The current top five is topped by the latest (new to vinyl) from the acclaimed hip-hop artist Freddie GIbbs: You Only Live 2wice on ESGN. Initially released two months ago, but now new on vinyl, 2wice is billed as an EP, but the eight track release clocks in at 32 minutes and features eight tracks. These include such tracks by the Gary, Indiana artist  as "Crushed Glass,"  "Phone Lit," "Amnesia" and "20 Karat Jesus."   Gibbs, who along with Ice-T was featured on the brand new EP release Late Night Blvd from $kinny, made headlines in recent weeks when he appeared on the premiere of the Viceland reality show The Therapist that features various celebrities sitting down with Los Angeles therapist Dr. Siri Sat Nam Singh to candidly discuss traumatic events and personal experiences.  In the Gibbs interview he openly  discussed his experience from two years ago when, in Austria, he accused of rape and later arrested and jailed and facing a possible ten years in prison. He talks about this case, of which he was acquitted back in September, and how it made him question a lot in his life and give up doing music altogether which, as proven by his 2017 release 2wice, he did not.

rapist. The show features Los Angeles therapist Dr. Siri Sat Nam Singh talking with various rappers and other celebrities about traumatic events and deep psychological wounds.

Here, Gibbs opens up for the first time about the events that led to him being accused of rape in Austria in 2015 and arrested for it in 2016. He was jailed in Austria while awaiting trial where he was facing 10 years in prison. He was acquitted of the charges in September 2016 and returned home shortly thereafter.

The 2CD set from prolific artist Funky DL Autonomy: The 4th Quarter 2 is the latest in a series from the UK artist via the East London artist's own Washington Classics label this year following the UK producer (and emcee) and collaborators' A Tribe Called Quest tribute Marauding At Midnight: A Tribute To The Sounds Of A Tribe Called Quest (also on vinyl), and last month's Japanese themed bonus beats Nights In Nippon Jazzstrumentals Bonus Tracks CD. This release features both his production and rhyming skills.
Both the  Blacastan & Stu Bangas  The Uncanny Adventures Of Watson & Holmes  on Brick Records and Slum Village's Vol. O  on Nestra Music Group are both new pre-order releases to look forward to.
"G.o.D. (Game of Death)" is the new album from the talented team up of producer Gensu Dean with emcee Wise Intelligent of Poor Righteous Teachers fame.  The album was recently released by Mello Music Group for whom Gensu has been a mainstay for the past half decade having produced for the label for releases from such artists as Roc Marciano, Homeboy Sandman, Large Professor, and Diamond D to name but some. G.o.D. (Game of Death) is a powerfully engaging piece of work from start to finish, proving that Wise Intelligent has not lost any of his edge and has more socially relevant observations than most rappers these days. For proof of this check out the new music video below for the album title track "G.o.D. (Game of Death)."  Another new Mello Music Group produced video below is the mini-documentary on Mr. Lif and Akrobatik of The Perceptionists fame (along with DJ Fakts One) in which the two Boston hip-hop legends discuss their latest project.
