Top 20 Vinyl Reissues of 2016

2016 was a strong year for reissues, with many now classic LPs getting dusted off and spiffed up as vinyl releases. Some of these releases were remastered, some have been out of print on vinyl for awhile, and some are just straight up excellent tributes to our late, great, favorite artists. From R&B to rock and even one very special television soundtrack, join us for a look back at our biggest sellers for the year and what makes each one essential listening.

Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me

20. The Cure - Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me

The Cure's seventh studio LP was their first album to break into the Billboard Top 40. Featuring beloved tracks "Just Like Heaven," "Hot Hot Hot!!!" and "Why Can't I Be You?," this recent 2-LP reissue is pressed on 180-gram vinyl.

Kill 'Em All

 19. Metallica - Kill 'Em All

Metallica's legendary debut album was originally printed in a limited run of 1,500 copies. This remastered reissue is available on 180-gram vinyl and features classics like "The Four Horsemen" and "Search & Destroy."

18. Prince - Prince

Prince's eponymous second album was released in 1979 and includes his first hit single, "I Wanna Be Your Lover." A critical and commercial success, platinum-certified album also features popular tracks "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?" and "Sexy Dancer."

RHCP Greatest Hits

17. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Greatest Hits

This 2-LP singles compilation is RHCP's second "best of" style release. (1992's What Hits!? was their first.) Originally released in 2003, Greatest Hits includes the band's most well-known songs from their 1991-2002 Warner Bros period.

Bona Drag

16. Morrissey - Bona Drag

15. Amy Winehouse - Frank

Originally released only on CD, Amy Winehouse's debut album was pressed on vinyl for the first time in 2008 and hasn't been widely available since. With used copies going for high prices on the resale market, fans can at last pick up a new 2-LP copy at an affordable price.

Bleed American

14. Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American

Let It Be

12. The Replacements - Let It Be

Considered one of the greatest rock LPs of not just the '80s but of the modern era, The Replacement's third LP features their (perhaps) best-known hit, "I Will Dare." With original pressings going for upwards of $100, it's nice to have this cornerstone of alt-rock available as an affordable reissue.

Live Through This

11. Hole - Live Through This

Hole's 1994 album -- featuring "Doll Parts," "Violet," and "Miss World" -- is out now on 180-gram vinyl. This is the first wax pressing of the LP, with the exception of an ultra limited German release.

OK Computer

10. Radiohead - OK Computer

Radiohead's seminal third LP was released almost twenty years ago, so it's a fitting time for a vinyl reissue. Fans can throw this 2-LP 180-gram green vinyl release on their record player and crank up "Subterranean Homesick Alien," "Karma Police," and "Paranoid Android."

Ride the Lightning

9. Metallica - Ride the Lightning

With the release of their second LP, Metallica continued to build a name for themselves in the world of metal. Ride the Lightning managed to peak at 100 on the Billboard Top 200 without radio exposure, thanks to the strength of tracks "Creeping Death," "For Whom the Bell Tolls," and "Fade to Black."

8. Michael Jackson - Thriller

Chock full of hits, Thriller features "Beat It," "Human Nature,""Billie Jean," "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" and the title track. Out now on 180-gram vinyl.
