Record Store Day is coming April 16, bringing loads of exclusive records to record stores around the country. You can see everything that’s coming to Amoeba here and everything we have in store for the day thus far here, including sales, DJs and more. Here are 10 releases we’re looking forward to picking up on RSD.

David Bowie The Man Who Sold The World [Picture Disc]

david bowie the man who sold the world picture disc record store dayDavid Bowie’s unfortunate passing has left us all with a thirst for all things Bowie. Some of his best-loved albums were recently re-released on vinyl, and the latest to get the reissue treatment is his third album. It’s best known for the title track, especially after being covered by Nirvana on their Unplugged LP, but The Man Who Sold the World represents a turning point in Bowie’s career as his music turned heavier and lyrics darker, setting an important precedent for goth rock, among other influences the album would have.

J Dilla - The Diary [LP+7'']

j dilla the diary lpThis is the kind of thing for which Record Store Day was made. The late, great hip hop artist/producer J Dilla recorded an album of vocal demos that were found shortly after his passing in 2006. Some were mixed by Dilla and the rest have been mixed by engineer Dave Cooley using Dilla’s demos as a guide. The vocals, recorded in the early 2000s, appear over productions by Madlib, Pete Rock, Nottz, House Shoes, Karriem Riggins and others. This issue also includes a 7” pressing of “The Ex” that only will be included with the RSD version of the release.

Madonna - Like A Virgin & Other Big Hits! [Pink Vinyl]

madonna like a virgin and other big hits pink vinyl record store day lpFinally, Madonna is putting out something on RSD! The 10” was originally released in Japan in 1984 and includes extended dance mixes of “Like a Virgin,” “Holiday,” “Lucky Star” and “Borderline” (so four of the best songs ever). This reissue is being remixed by John “Jellybean” Benitez and replicates the original release’s artwork, including the Japanese Obi strip along the side of the album.

Lush - Origami [five-LP Box] [Clear/Silver/Red/Pink/Yellow Vinyl]

lush origami lp box set record store dayThough we recently got a reissue of reformed shoegaze band Lush’s greatest hits album, Ciao!, that simply wasn’t enough. Now we get ALL of Lush’s album-length releases on vinyl, including their singles compilation Gala; studio albums Spooky, Split and Lovelife; and, for the first time on vinyl, the Lovelife outtakes album Topolino. The box set also includes a download card for previously unreleased home demos.

Various Artists - Disney Favorite Songs

disney favorite songs record store day lpClassic Disney songs on vinyl, what’s not to love? The 12” has songs from 1940’s Pinocchio (“When You Wish Upon a Star”) all the way through 2013’s Frozen (“Let It Go”), including “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “I Wan'na Be Like You (The Monkey Song),” “Part of Your World,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “I See the Light.”

Bob Dylan Melancholy Mood 7”

bob dylan melancholy mood 7" record store dayThis is a reissue of a 7” created for Dylan’s recent Japanese tour. It’s not just a cool collector’s item; it also has four unreleased tracks from Dylan’s upcoming album, Fallen Angels. The red vinyl pressing includes the tracks "Melancholy Mood," "All or Nothing At All," "Come Rain Or Come Shine" and "That Old Black Magic."

Pinback Blue Screen Life

pinback blue screen life lp record store dayOne of the great underrated bands of indie rock, Pinback’s gorgeous lines of clean guitar interplay can be heard superbly on the band’s second album.

Sun Ra - Spaceways [Psychedelic Swirl Vinyl]

sun ra spaceways lp record store day Astral traveler Sun Ra’s Spaceways captures performances by Sun Ra and his Arkestra in New York City in 1966 and ’68. This is the album’s first vinyl release and captures the avant-garde jazz pioneer in his element.

Xiu XIu - Plays The Music Of Twin Peaks [180 Gram, Red & Blue Vinyl]

xiu xiu twin peaks lp record store dayXiu Xiu’s grim subject matter and often eerie, unpredictable music makes them a match made in hell for reinterpreting the music of “Twin Peaks.” It includes versions of the music crafted by composer Angelo Badalamenti and show creator David Lynch, including “Laura Palmer’s Theme” and “Falling.” It’s mixed by Deerhoof’s Greg Saunier and comes in gatefold jacket with a download code.

The Go! Team Thunder, Lightning, Strike

This mid-2000s classic came out before the vinyl boom but later than the spate of ’90s reissues we often see now. So it’s great to hear the album is being repressed for Record Store Day. If you aren’t familiar, the album from Brighton, England-based Ian Parton and co. paired noisey shoegaze sonics with gleeful samples of cheerleading squads, kids’ music and other oddities. Only 2,000 are being pressed in total, so show up early if you want a copy. It’s pressed on red and yellow swirl vinyl.
