The lineup for Moogfest 2016 (May 19 - 22) -- the annual tribute to Dr. Robert Moog that brings together music, art, and technology -- promises be a richly diverse one with performers including Gary Numan (whose first three albums are being reissued on vinyl this week) GZA, Mad Professor, and The Orb. Just announced in the video below by synth-loving comedic entertainer (and fest participant) Reggie Watts, Moogfest 2016's lineup of over one hundred musical acts will include ODESZA, Laurie Anderson, Oneohtrix Point Never, Daniel LanoisBlood Orange, Sun Ra Arkestra, DJ Harvey, Explosions in the Sky, sunn O)))Simian Mobile Disco, Ben Frost, Kode9, Lunice, Ryan Hemsworth, and YACHT. In addition to musical performances, Moogfest includes workshops, lectures, and masterclasses such as Reggae Hacker Soundsystem and Radio and the Radiophonic. Meanwhile, speakers and presenters will include former Hollywood Amoebite DJ Lance Rock (reppin' Yo Gabba Gabba!) and author Dave Tompkins (who discussed his book on the evolution of vocoders with the Amoeblog). There will also be art installations and a mini film festival. Moogfest 2016's keynote speakers will be virtual reality pioneer Jaron Lanier and "transhumanist activist/pharma tycoon" Dr. Martine Rothblatt.

The festival will take place in Durham, NC for the first time with program partners including MIT Media Lab, Google, Duke University, and Georgia Institute of Technology. Moogfest's self-described mission is to "explore the future of technology and creativity with a mind-expanding conference featuring panels, workshops and installations." That's the art/tech parts of the event that take place during the daytime hours. Included will be a talk by sound explorer Onyx Ashanti who will present developments in his "exo-voice" sonic prosthesis, and Mad Professor who will lead a masterclass (the previously mentioned reggae hacker one). The dub reggae legend will also contribute to the nighttime music performance half of Moogfest that promises to "celebrate the future of sound with performances by early pioneers in electronic music, alongside pop and avant garde experimentalists."

Pioneering electronic/pop music artist Gary Numan will perform his first three albums (Replicas, The Pleasure Principle, and Telekon) over three consecutive nights at three different venues. Coincidentally those three Numan albums are getting reissued on vinyl this week on December 11th by Beggars Banquet.

The experimental electronic artists performing will include Quintron & Miss Pussycat, while ambient music artists will include genre veterans Daniel Lanois, and The Orb. Veteran experimentalist Laurie Anderson, as well as chairing one of the daytime electronic music discussions, will present her new solo performance "The Language of the Future." In addition to GZA, the hip-hop roster for the event focuses on such emerging talent as Tory Lanez, Denzel Curry, Dr. Dre protege King Mez, and Well$.

Tix for the three day event run about $250 (double that for the VIP)
