Mark Ronson is a DJ and producer whose work nods to classic soul and funk style sounds. Born in London but educated in New York City, Ronson began his career by DJing high profile gigs like Sean "P. Diddy" Combs' 29th birthday party. In 2003, he found success in the UK with the release of his debut album, Here Comes the Fuzz, which features guest appearances from the likes of Anthony Hamilton, Nikka Costa, Rivers Cuomo, Jack White, Mos Def, and Sean Paul. In 2007, he released a collection of cover songs called Version, which was followed by 2010's Record Collection.

In 2015, Ronson released Uptown Special. He dedicated the album to Amy Winehouse, whose Back to Black he had produced and for which he had received the 2008 Grammy Award for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical. Uptown Special features "Uptown Funk," a collaboration with Bruno Mars which marked Ronson's first entry into Billboard's Hot 100. Interestingly, the album features lyrics written by Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Michael Chabon.

In support of Uptown Special, Mark Ronson showed off his DJ skills with an in-store set at Amoeba Hollywood. Fans of all ages came out to meet the producer/DJ and found themselves dancing in the aisles! Ronson surprised everyone when he brought out a few guest vocalists, including rapper Mystikal. The two collaborated on the funky James Brown-esque "Feel Right," featured on Uptown Special. After his DJ set, Ronson sat down with us for another memorable episode of What's In My Bag?.

An avid digger of classic soul, Mark kicks things off with a copy of Patrice Rushen's Prelusion on vinyl. He follows that up with Volume IV: The Classic Singles 88-93, a compilation by UK legends Soul II Soul. Mark tells a great story of being the only kid in town with a Soul II Soul CD single and trading it with a friend for five CDs! A legit hip hop head, Ronson picks up a few classics that made an impact on him in his early days of producing. He grabs Gang Starr's Daily Operation and picks up A Tribe Called Quest's Midnight Marauders on vinyl, two must haves of  '90s Hip Hop. Watch the full episode below to see all of Mark's picks!
