New Vinyl Reissues Out This Week from Joy Division, David Bowie & More

There have been lots of vinyl reissues out lately, to mark anniversaries or to feature newly remastered audio on heavyweight vinyl. Here are the reissue highlights for July 24, 2015.

A classic of downtempo electronica, the success of Moon Safari essentially launched the French duo’s musical career. Their debut LP has just been remastered on 180 gram vinyl, following last month's reissue of their four other studio albums and the 40th anniversary of The Virgin Suicides soundtrack. David Bowie Fame 7"

Fame [40th Anniversary Picture Disc] 7”

For its 40th anniversary, Bowie’s "Fame" single has been reissued as a limited edition picture disc. Co-written by John Lennon, the track features vocals from the ex-Beatle and was Bowie’s first number one hit in the US.

Seven 180 Gram Vinyl Reissues

A slew of CCR LPs got the reissue treatment, including their self-titled debut (1968), Bayou Country (1969), Willy and the Poor Boys (1969), Green River (1969), Cosmo’s Factory (1970), Pendulum (1970), and Mardi Gras (1972). Each are available on 180 gram vinyl.

Joy Division Still and Substance vinyl reissues

In honor of the 35th anniversary of their most well-known song, “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” Joy Division’s complete discography has been remastered and reissued on 180 gram vinyl, with gatefold sleeves. Unknown Pleasures and Closer were both reissued last month. Substance has been expanded, with the addition of the tracks “As You Said” and the Pennine version of “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” The reissue marks the first time this version will be available on vinyl.

Originally released in 2006, Beth Orton’s fourth studio LP was recorded in just two weeks at New York’s Sear Sound studio, with Jim O’Rourke as producer. This reissue is on 180 gram vinyl.

The cult classic musical soundtrack is being reissued for the film’s 40th anniversary. Available on red vinyl, of course.

Rush Moving Pictures vinyl reissue

Throughout 2015, Rush’s Mercury-era discography is getting the 200 gram vinyl reissue treatment. Originally reissued in 1981, this was the band’s biggest-selling record in the US, where it rose to #3 on the Billboard charts.

Sonic Youth Evol reissue

A reissue of the band's 1986 full-length and the first album to feature drummer Steve Shelley. This reissue includes the track "Bubblegum," which is a Kim Fowley cover and features Mike Watt. It's the first time this track has appeared on the LP release.

Waterboys Fisherman's Blues vinyl reissue

The Waterboys' best-selling album, Fisherman's Blues, could also be considered their Celtic-inspired masterwork. This 180gm vinyl reissue comes on the heels of Room to Roam and This Is The Sea, both of which were recently reissued on 180gm vinyl.
