The photos above and below, all care of James Mak (Joysco Photos), are from Sunday's exciting  2015 DMC San Francisco Regional DJ Battle at Brick and Mortar which, in addition to the regional battle portion, was also the setting for the Battle for US Supremacy which meant that a lot of DJs flew in from all over the country to compete in the important battle. Among those visiting competitors was DJ Precision (above) who flew out from New York City to not only take the title in the 2015 DMC Battle for US Supremacy but also scoop up the local regional title in the 2015 DMC San Francisco DJ Battle beating out Bay Area DMC regular Ichy the Killer (below) from San Jose who won last year's SF DMC title and consequently went onto to NYC for the DMC US Finals where he placed fifth.

Legendary Bay Area turntable artist DJ Cue (of the pioneering San Francisco DJ crew Bullet Proof Scratch Hamsters), who these days oversees Special Tech DJ school/shop in San Bruno, was the promoter of the DJ battle event and as such was in the thick of it all on Sunday so I asked DJ Cue to give the Amoeblog his run-down on the big event that turned out to be quite a memorable one.

"The SF 2015 DMC was an event that will be remembered for years to come.  This particular battle will be remembered by many as one that is was as close to some old school WWF matches as it could be.  The competition as well as the character roles some played really added to the excitement and show aspect," enthused DJ Cue who praised this year's venue - Brick and Mortar - for being "very generous in allowing us to have an all ages event which is what we have always been trying to do to allow the younger generations to experience this event and be inspired!"

As accurately noted by DJ Cue: the fact that so often DJ battles are in 21+ clubs when the average battle DJ age is in their teens - is counterproductive. "That often they are over 21 has been a key reason the battle scene gets very little support from some generations.  I’m very confident we will see younger DJ’s get involved in these events and compete and grow their skills when we hold battles in venues like Brick and Mortar that allows all ages in."

Another plus for this year's DMC battle according to DJ Cue was the well rounded judges panel. "Regarding the judges, we had full coverage from the battle, club, radio, mobile, and producer scenes," noted Cue. "And that is more important than just having battle DJ’s as judges. I believe that this year's DMC was proof that all scenes can work together and be successful and much more, just have fun!"

DJ Cue noted how SF Regional Battle portion of the event had, "a great showing from all the contestants this year with every region of the Bay Area from San Jose to Modesto to Santa Rosa and in between all represented this year, plus battle DJs from Chicago, Seattle and New York  -  which was real nice to see.  Ichy the Killer, last year’s winner, really did a “killer” performance but it wasn’t enough to knock out Precision to take this years regional victory. Overall they all kept the crowd engaged and cheering but in the end the results were: first place DJ Precision, second  Ichy the Killer, and third The Beat Molester from Seattle.

Now onto the Supremacy Battle: I think we now have a healthy rivalry between two great DJ’s; Precision from NYC, and Ambideckstriks from Chicago.  Their Supremacy rounds really embraced what a battle should be.  For many years it was the same ole taking turns but this one had some heated drama that made it one that had you on the edge of your seats.  The crowd was engaged and those who never witnessed such a battle will definitely remember this one.  It reminded me of the New Music Seminar Mix Master Mike vs DJ Honda battle in 1992.

Note that the 2015 DMC World DJ Championships will take place in London, England on October 4th, 2015. DJ Cue (pictured below with DMC organizer Christie Z Pabon and showcase performer Mista-B) wanted to send thank-you's to all involved in the DMC battle last weekend. "I would like to say thank you to those that took the time out of their weekend to be a part of the event by contributing their time and experience by judging, hosting, helping setup, promote, sponsor, and photograph the event.   And most of all, Thank You to the people who came out to support by purchasing tickets, without the financial support, these events are very difficult to have.  Many thanks!" - DJ Cue
