The Mantles – “Memory”

The Mantles’ Long Enough to Leave was a delightful traipse through New Zealand-style jangle pop, and now the Bay Area-based Slumberland band is coming back with a set of new recordings. They’re first coming out with the Memory 7” Dec. 2, featuring two new songs. Listen to the Felt-ish “Memory” now and get swept up in their sweet autumnal strums.

Spaceships – “Good Gradez”

spaceshipsNoisy L.A. duo Spaceships have a new self-titled EP coming out Nov. 4 on New Professor and we’ve got the first song now, called “Good Gradez.” It’s got the same distorted power-pop chords and snarled melodies of their debut LP, Cool Breeze Over the Mountains, with an ever-so-slightly cleaned-up sound to make sure Jessie Waite’s terrific vocals cut through clearly. I for one give this song an A+! Check out the interview I did with the band last week here.

Ty Segall – “The Singer” video

Ty Segall’s band are a bunch of ghosts in the latest video off of Segall’s excellent Manipulator album. Watch him float up on some supernatural vibes in “The Singer.”

Death Valley Girls – “Electric High” video

Death Valley Girls already sounds like some awesome ’70s B-movie, and that’s the treatment we get for the video to the L.A. lady-Stooges“Electric High.” Bad girls in class, bad, trippy special effects, an electric vampire—it’s all here. The Electric High 7” is out Dec. 14 on Lolipop. If you’re in S.F., catch them at Bottom of the Hill tonight!

Deap Vally – “Live at Amoeba Hollywood” video

Watch L.A. duo Deap Vally craft a huge sound with just one fuzzed-out guitar and a banging drum set from their Amoeba Hollywood performance earlier this year, promoting their latest album, Sistrionix.

Shows This Weekend:

Friday: Thurston Moore Band and Sebadoh at the Echoplex ($24)

Saturday: Peaking Lights' record release party for Cosmic Logic, with Nite Jewel, Puro Instinct, Animal Collective (DJ set) and more at Los Globos ($13)

Sunday: Ex Hex, LA Font and Speedy Ortiz at The Echo ($15)
