Hanni El Khatib

Garage-rock troubador Hanni El Khatib is headlining the next Red Bull Sound Select show in Los Angeles on Oct. 21, curated by our friends at KCRW. Hindu Pirates open the show.

It takes place at Venice’s Del Monte Speakeasy, with Dan Wilcox (KCRW) hosting. Tickets are $3 with an RSVP (or $12 walk-up) and the show is 21+.

Hanni El Khatib released a batch of catchy garage-rock tunes last year called Head in the Dirt, produced by The Black KeysDan Auerbach. Read my interview with him here, and check out his episode of “What’s In My Bag?” below:

Hindu Pirates (aka Hin Du)

At a collectively young age, Orange County-born Hindu Pirates have been profiled in Los Angeles Magazine, released an EP sponsored by Hurley (called Hurley) and have played with other great L.A. garage acts like Allah-Las and Froth and at Burger Records’ Burgerama show. They’ve now changed their names to Hin Du; for a taste of their new sounds, hear the silvery “December” below:

Red Bull’s Sound Select shows serve to benefit upcoming artists around the country, paring a nationally touring headliner with local opening acts. The opening acts get 100% of door proceeds.

The Red Bull folk are also hosting an awesome music series in November with one show a day at venues all around the city for their 30 Days in L.A. series. First up is Cut Copy on Nov. 1; other artists playing include Death From Above 1979, Dum Dum Girls, Real Estate, Future Islands, Kurt Vile & the Violators and Juicy J. See all of the shows and buy tickets here.
