Timothy SimonsAmoeba Hollywood was the place to be on Saturday, September 6 where Timothy Simons (Jonah from VEEP) highlighted and auctioned off all kinds of cool and crazy stuff to benefit the Theater Arts Program at Los Angeles High School of the Arts. With his droll sense of humor and his whimsical stream-of-consciousness descriptions of each item, he had the audience chuckling and bidding. The more they chuckled, the higher they bid. He raised more than $1,200.00 in bids which, when matched by Amoeba, means $2,400.00 for the LAHSA Theater program!

"Here is...a Beatles pack. The Beatles. Maybe you've heard of them....a band from Australia a bunch of years ago who made their debut US television appearance on the Johnny Carson show."

The deadpan delivery and ongoing ironies made for a highly entertaining afternoon. The sheer brilliance in his introduction of a Lynyrd Skynyrd wall tapestry...well, you had to be there. This month's auction items were also amazing, including autographed VEEP items, concert tickets to sold out shows and backstage access, as well as weird and wonderful promo items. As Tim slyly delivered up each item and shared memories, I wondered how many of the kids in the audience took his recounting as gospel. It was all in good fun for a good cause!

A little bit about Timothy Simons, who graciously returned to host our auction:

He can currently be seen in season three of HBO's critically acclaimed comedy, VEEP, as the hilarious Jonah Ryan. Matthew Gilbert from The Boston Globe says, "So far, this season belongs to Jonah, played so brilliantly unappealingly by the tall and toothy Timothy Simons.” New York Times writer Robert Ito was quick to point out that, “[Jonah] as played by the actor Timothy Simons… has become so loved and reviled that the character has attained a life of his own outside the show." Tim was nominated with the cast this year for a SAG Award in the category of "Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series."

On the big screen, Simons will soon be seen in Seth Rogen's comedy, The Interview, as well as Paul Thomas Anderson's mystery drama Inherent Vice.

Simons recently wrapped production on Rob Letterman's Goosebumps with Jack Black among others. In addition, Simons was most recently seen in Summit's Draft Day as Marx opposite Kevin Costner and Jennifer Gardner. Tim currently resides in Los Angeles.

And a bit about LAHSA:

LAHSA is a specialty school in the Los Angeles Unified School District that focuses on the performing arts and open to enrollment for students within LAUSD.

Thank you so much to Tim for once again bringing the laughter! And with his auctioneering wizardry, he was able to raise $2,400.00 for young kids working to hone their craft in the theater arts! Of course thanks also to all of the folks who came and supported!

Don't miss the next Amoeba auction set for November 1st. See ya there!
