Amoeba Music Hollywood Hip-Hop Chart Week Ending 12:13:13

1) Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP2 (Interscope)

2) Dom Kennedy Get Home Safely (The Other Peoples Money Co.)

3) Drake Nothing Was The Same (Cash Money)

4) Danny Brown Old (Fools Gold)

5) Deltron 3030 Event II (Bulk Recordings)

Five weeks since its release, Eminem's universally popular (and deservedly so) latest album The Marshall Mathers LP2 (Interscope) continues to top the charts at Amoeba Hollywood as seen in the above latest top five from the LA store. And that is not the only place Eminem is number one this week. His incredibly popular current album single "The Monster (featuring Rihanna)" just hit number one on the Billboard charts, meaning that Eminem now ranks as the rapper with the most number one pop singles (a total of five). Meanwhile, the new album's first single "Berzerk" is a nominee for best rap performance in the upcoming Grammy Awards as announced by the organization last Friday. Furthermore, the Eminem song is being used in advertising for the Jan. 26, 2014 Grammy ceremony. However the full The Marshall Mathers LP2 is not eligible for a trophy in the 56th annual show because of the timing of its release.

Below is the brand new video off talented hip-hop group Tanya Morgan's latest album Rubber Souls. It is for the new album track "Worldmade" that is produced by 6th Sense produced with video directed by Alex Ghassan for BKLYN134 who juxtaposes shots of the group (whose lineup has changed since their last album) with shots of undefeated Brooklyn Muay Thai fighter, Angela 'Overkill' Hill, seen here in intimidating full-out training mode. "In a way, 'Worldmade' is a continuation of a song we put out called 'In The City' on the You and What Army EP. From our city to the world. It speaks on how we all value ourselves and each other, and how that leads to the way we are valued by those in positions to help us...the people vs our leaders," commented Tanya Morgan member Von Pea.

A-Plus & AAGEE (aka Compound 7) "Time To Let Go"

Souls of Mischief member A-Plus' other (non-Hieroglyphics) project is Compound 7 - a more EDM than hip-hop flavored musical venture that he has collaborated with fellow hip-hop producer AAGEE on. You may recall their last joint venture: the Red Hot Chili Peppers-inspired release Pepper Spray. Most recently together they've just completed the Compound 7 album Molly’s Dirty Water that will be released via Hieroglyphics Imperium on January 14th, 2014. In a prepared release the two hip-hoppers say that for inspiration that they tap into their, "experiences partying at EDM clubs" for a collection of new recordings that they accurately describe as fusing "hip-hop attitude with the sonic vocabulary of EDM production styles."

Examples include the track "Time To Let Go" (music video above) from the concept album whose main character is Molly - aka the name of the club party drug. Although in their press statement they insist that "labeling their character “Molly” as a drug reference would be an oversimplification" with A-Plus adding that, “…some songs are more about a cool girl named Molly, others about a not so cool girl named Molly.”

Last night (Dec 12th) DJ Premier announced, via his Facebook page, that he is opening up a Gang Starr Holiday Pop Up Shop for the next three weeks that will house and sell official Gang Starr  merchandise, most bearing that instantly recognizable Gang Starr logo. An online only pop up store it will be open until the end of this month here.
And finally I leave you with the latest video from the one and only Public Enemy for their track "Hoover Music" (that's "Hoover" as in J Edgar). As you will see/hear Chuck D and crew have not lost any of their edge or unbridled lyrical assault and honesty after all these years. What they have lost is fans or "followers" as they are nowadays known. Tragically, while endless videos of one-dimensional, message-less rap/hip-hop music videos get YouTube views in the millions, this powerful new video/song from PE has only gotten 5000+ views since it was uploaded over 3 weeks ago!
