Rappin' 4-Tay "Players Club" (1994)

As a follow up to this week's Amoeblog on current attention-grabbing Fillmore rapper DaVinci comes this overview of the San Francisco district's rap/hip-hop past care of Amoeblog reader and longtime SF rap player Jim Browskee who has drawn up this list of Fillmore (aka Fillmoe, aka The MOE, aka Da Filthy Moe) rap acts exclusively for the Amoeblog. While, he admits, not completely inclusive of every rap act to come from this SF hood it does include all of its key players; both high-profile acts such as Rappin' 4-Tay (the Fillmore artist introduced to the world in 1988 by Too $hort on his Dangerous Crew compilation (with the song "She's Hooked") and later to be the first Fillmore rap act to international pop success with his huge 1994 hit "Players Club" (first on the indie label Rag Top Records and then picked up by Chrysalis/EMI) gain  and such lesser known acts as Click Clack Gang who some heard of via their appearance on The Free Messy Marv Movement CD compilation or maybe via San Quinn when they guested on his track "Fillmoe Nigga."

Many of the artists on the list are connected somehow; some are family, literally. For example Bailey DaChamp is San Quinn's brother. And San Quinn and JT The Bigga Figga's rap alma-mater the Get Low Playaz crew, which also featured Black Nate, Bluechip, D-Moe, & Seff Tha Gaffla, is also included here by Jim Browskee.  Noting how this is not a completely comprehensive, but rather a selective overview of the main acts from the area, list of Fillmore rappers, its compiler adds that, "The list goes on..RIP K~DUB..aka: Rick flair..aka:Kwanz" in reference to the famed member of Bored Stiff who tragically passed in the passed in the past couple of years..

A longtime Fillmore SF resident and dedicated rap fan/supporter who "still lives on Sutter Street going on 30 years" Jim Browskee has worked behind the scenes in various production capacities in SF rap between the years 1994 and 2001.

Jim Browskee tells the Amoeblog that he can be best described as, "a true Fillmoe cat, a hood cat...forever keeping it real," adding that "I will never leave the City." Thanks to Jim Browskee for compiling this list for the Amoeblog! And he encourages others to submit (in the comments below) any Fillmoe rap acts that he may have overlooked and are deserving of inclusion here.
