B-Side Ourselves (CD)
Skid Row
Amoeba Review
Joanna Ricco 05/26/2010
Eking in at the last possible second of hair metal relevance before Nirvana diverted rock’s course, Skid Row is snotty, raucous and at times a little more ominous than the Cinderella’s at the ball. On the short release B-Side Ourselves, the last they’d make before the gear-grinding 1995 release of Subhuman Race, the band did a batch of cover songs. Not ones to tread lightly or go half-ass, Skid Row’s redoes some of punk and rock’s greatest acts, including The Ramones, Judas Priest, Kiss, Sex Pistols, and Jimi Hendrix. That takes a heavy set of balls, and guess what Skid Row has? A heavy set of balls. They don’t offend anybody here, but rather make you want to kick your face just a little.
