Amoeba Review

Billy Gil, Hollywood 12/17/2012

Tennis are a cute indie pop duo whose first album had some nice moments but was altogether a bit cloying. Their second album tosses away the sea-shanty feel of the first, and in its place is a stunning maturity. Songs like “Origins” search the sky for answers in vague, yet entirely relatable ways.

02/14/2012

From their debut Cape Dory, Denver three-piece Tennis has grown musically and soulfully into a much more accomplished, assured followup. You expect melodic, no-nonsense roots-rock-pop from Fat Possum, and this is no disappointment, its warm, vintage sound recalling ‘70s Stax, Todd Rundgren and Mazzy Star. Alaina Moore’s vocals sound wondrously pure, Patrick Riley and James Barone provide rollicking accompaniment, and producer Patrick Carney of The Black Keys sautees it all in a warm, vintage sound. Great tunes abound.
