Best of LA 2012 - "Best Record Store"

The past several years have seen smaller record stores such as Vacation,Origami and Permanent Records benefiting from the mounting interest invinyl. But after going strong for more than 10 years, Amoeba continues tobe the go-to spot for collectors of all genres. Not only is the store constantlywell-stocked with new and vintage records in everything from house to jazz, but it's also one of the few places you can still buy new CDs on the day oftheir release. The DVD selection upstairs is easily the most expansive in thecity, attracting a wide variety of collectors, in particular those embedded inthe sci-fi and horror genres. Unlike at many record stores, the staff isextremely helpful, consisting mainly of aspiring musicians doubling asspecialists in their own respective genres. The hulking exterior may beintimidating to some, but once you find a particular corner of the store thatspeaks to your taste, your home will be littered with Amoeba's signaturebright yellow plastic bags. 6400 Sunset Blvd., Hlywd.
