Neil Hamburger is a comedian who despite having poor comic timing, clearing his throat nonstop during his routine, using cliched punchlines, and seeming to loathe his audience, has become an icon and tastemaker in comedy and in music. Hamburger's "anti-comedy" has been compared to Lenny Bruce and has been credited for changing the expectation that comedians be funny and insightful.
Hamburger first appeared on the Great Phone Calls compilation (Amarillo Records, 1992) and released his first solo album, Looking for Laughs EP (Amarillo Records), in 1994. His first official full-length album, America's Funnyman, was released in 1996 on Drag City. Hamburger tours relentlessly, including opening for NOFX, Faith No More, Puscifer, and Bad Religion, and touring with Tenacious D in 2007. He sold out Madison Square Garden and has appeared on television shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live, Red Eye w/Greg Gutfiled (FOX News), and Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, among others. Hamburger's latest full-length album is Sings Country Winners (Drag City, 2008). In 2009, he released a 7" with Australian band The Hard-Ons called American Exports (Red Lounge Records).
